income”.

Modern society and income

Throughout history, many civilizations have used barter to exchange goods and services. However, a lack of
parity between the goods being traded meant it soon became obsolete. Thus, cash was born and currently,
money play a pivotal role in our society. But have you ever wondered if we really appreciate the value of
money?

In the first place, in relation to celebrities, the more they are in the spotlight, the more money they earn.
Nevertheless, it can be clearly seen that some of them receive millions of euros and hardly ever do they
appreciate this shameful amount of money. As a consequence, society is losing moral compass, since talented
as such people might be, such unreasonable incomes can’t be justified.

Accordingly, youngers have a misconception about the value of money, thinking that it grows on tress,
without really appreciating the hard wok which involved earning it. This stems from the fact that parents give
them pocket money weekly or monthly or even when they ask for, and hopefully they get it, no matter how
they are going to manage it.

Needless to say that not only do we fail to appreciate the value of money, but we also underestimate some
basic consumer goods and services such as education and medical attention, which are obviously the bedrock
of society. Were the government to economise in order to invest in education and healthcare, the situation
would doubtlessly improve.

On the whole, having said that, there is evidence to suggest that only when we teach children about finance
from an early age, will modern society be aware of how hard it is to get money that truly reflect their effort
and worth. Only in this way, can they get rid of their vague understanding about the value of money.

Use the information from the four texts you read to write an essay for your teacher on some of the
social and ethical issues involved in buying designer goods.

Designer goods: are they worth it?

Nowadays, many people are undoubtedly enticed by designer labels for their appeal of luxury. There is no
doubt that the allure of such brands is that you will be one of few to own the limited product. However, do
designers goods justify its hefty price and its respectfulness with the social and ethical viewpoint? In this
essay, I will examine the pros and cons of buying pricey designer.

To begin with, it is widely known that designer goods are meticulously designed and precisely made. As a
consequence, they are the outcome of an elaborate creative process, whose expensiveness merely stem from
the quality of the unique design, fine materials, and excellent workmanship. According to this, luxury
consumers do feel a sense of pride when they wear something unique, compared to high street brands which
flood the market, such as Zara or Stradivarius.

Nevertheless, in the marketplace, there is emerging a type of consumers who are more concerned about the
ethical performance of companies when making their buying decisions. Therefore, if a consumer is more
environmental conscious, then he would rather support fashion brands that embrace sustainable
environmental practices in their production process. As a consequence, many people opt for shopping locally.
Only in this way, do people support local economy and they make sure of buying clothes of high-quality.

Last but not least, another point worth mentioning is related to the counterfeit. A company that offers low
prices for its luxury fashion brands may be perceived to be having poor production practices. As a
consequence, it becomes more difficult for consumers to justify paying high prices for luxury goods.

In light of the above, having considered all sides of the argument, despite the fact that designer goods offer
quality, their shortcomings with regard to social and ethical viewpoint, undermine their value. Therefore, it
truly turns out to be clear that the drawbacks of buying designer goods outweigh their advantages.
