To future NCSIW Eng’g Heads:

I know this message is already several years too late, but as the saying goes, “better late than never”! 😅

If you’re reading this, congrats for being selected as the eng’g head! Start na ‘to ng (usually) once-in-a-lifetime
experience mo of providing a memorable experience to the participants through your work. The following
months is not easy for sure, but I know you can do it!

Kapag naestablish mo na ang iyong brand for the event, it is vital for you to create a BRAND BOOK containing
ALL the necessary instructions on how to PROPERLY use your elements para hindi nalalayo ‘yung outputs ng
team mo sa iyong vision and para mas smooth ‘yung workflow niyo. It’s better din that way para mas magamit
nang maayos ng iyong pre-staff/event staff ‘yung materials while you focus on more important things,
especially sa mga time na super high demand ng content generation.

For sure, one of the reasons that you are selected as the eng’g head is because the committee has liked your
vision on how you would like to present the event, so I won’t be delving too much on that. Siguro tip ko lang na
if you have a solid vision in mind, learn to be firm and assertive especially knowing that the ECATs and the
NEC might have polarizing comments to your works. Just explain to them properly what you want to execute
and keep in mind their suggestions on how to improve your works hehe. Basta provide a leeway and have your
drafts checked about a few days before your scheduled posting para you have ample time to apply revisions.

Syempre given na ‘yung ating pub skills, focus naman tayo sa other soft skills that you will be needing as you
navigate towards the event proper itself, such as time management, communication skills, saka paghaggle with
lights and sounds partner for ALL your needs. One thing to note especially to those who haven’t experienced
their first national event yet (due to COVID smh), read the SWRs and evaluation presentations of previous
events, especially on how they facilitated the tech stuff sa event so you’d know what to avoid and/or to iron out
before the event starts.

Can’t stress this enough: YOUR PROGRAMS HEAD WILL BE YOUR PARTNER-IN-CRIME FOR THE NEXT
MONTHS. Noong time namin, we had a PrEng’g (Programs x Eng’g) group chat para every step of the way,
coordinated and harmonized ‘yung vision namin together. Since you will be working closely with them for the
next five months or so, super vital na you have a good working relationship (but also respecting your set
deadlines to each other).

This also applies to other committees since you will be the one who will provide (some) of their pub materials. If
you are clueless on what pubmats to create (aside from the usual ones), you can create some sort of a pub
request form for your coremates to fill out if may need silang ipapost sa page hehe.

Aside from your core members, also be close (eme) to your pre-staff/event staff members! Ikaw ‘yung lodi nila
pagdating sa event ganaps, so make sure that you are guiding them properly. Always make sure na well-
utilized din sila para maalleviate sa’yo some of the deliverable and at the same time mas maimprove ‘yung pub
skills nila. Malay mo sa kanila manggaling ‘yung next Eng’g right?! It’s a learning experience for the both of
you, so sulitin ito!

Az a nafefeel na ang fast pace ng social media evolution, keep up with the trends! Utilize other platforms sa
pagpromote ng event (e.g., Tiktok Dance Challenge ng event dance niyo, IG filters, etc.). In creating your
pubmats, also take note on how your work would look like on BOTH mobile and PC (i.e., size restrictions, etc.).

Enjoy and good luck! Always prioritize your mental and physical health! If you have other questions, feel free to
message me (and other previous engineering core heads) on Facebook or kung saan sila pwede mahagilap
hehe. Fighting!

- Kuya Rem 😊
