127 HOURS

One of the most incredible survival stories in recent memory is that of

Aron Ralston, a hiker who became trapped in a remote canyon in Utah in
2003.

Aron was an experienced outdoorsman, but while hiking alone in Blue

John Canyon, a boulder shifted and trapped his arm against the canyon
wall. He was unable to move or free himself, and he quickly realized that
his situation was dire.

With no food, no water, and no way to contact anyone for help, Aron
knew that he would have to take drastic measures to survive. He spent
five days trapped in the canyon, rationing the small amount of water he
had and attempting to chip away at the boulder with a pocketknife.

On the fifth day, Aron realized that he had no choice but to amputate his
own arm in order to escape. He used the dull blade of his pocketknife to
sever his arm below the elbow, and then rappelled down a 65-foot cliff to
safety.

Despite his incredible ordeal, Aron managed to make his way out of the
canyon and to a nearby campsite where he was rescued by search and
rescue teams. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors were able to
save his life.

Aron's story of survival became the subject of the best-selling book

"Between a Rock and a Hard Place" and the movie "127 Hours," which
depicted his harrowing experience. His story is a testament to the power
of human resilience and the will to survive in the face of impossible odds
