PRACTICAL WORK
Introduction
Materials needed:
Oscilloscope
Function generator
BNC cables
DIAGRAM:
Procedure
1. The function generator was connected to the oscilloscope using a BNC cable.
2. The function generator was set to produce a sine wave with a frequency of 8kHz and amplitude
of 1.
3. Corresponding waveform was observed on the oscilloscope.
4. The frequency of the function generator was change to 5kHz.
5. The waveform was observed on the oscilloscope.
Results
When the function generator produced a sine wave with a frequency of 8kHz, the waveform on
the oscilloscope appeared as follows:
Discussion
The results show that when the frequency of the function generator was changed from 8kHz to
5kHz, the waveform on the oscilloscope changed accordingly. This demonstrates FSK modulation,
where the frequency of the carrier signal is varied to represent digital data.
Conclusion
In this lab, we demonstrated FSK modulation using only an oscilloscope and a function
generator. The results showed that the frequency of the carrier signal can be varied to represent
digital data. This simple setup can be used to demonstrate basic concepts of FSK modulation
SIMULATION
requirements
Simulink software
DIAGRAM:
Procedure
1. Simulink was opened and a new model was created.
2. From the Simulink Library Browser, drag and drop a "Sine Wave" block onto the model.
3. Double-click the "Sine Wave" block to open its parameters.
4. Set the frequency of the sine wave to 1kHz and amplitude to 1.
5. From the Simulink Library Browser, drag and drop a "Frequency Shift Keying Modulator
Baseband" block onto the model.
6. Connect the output of the "Sine Wave" block to the input of the "Frequency Shift Keying
Modulator Baseband" block.
7. Double-click the "Frequency Shift Keying Modulator Baseband" block to open its parameters.
8. Set the "Mark Frequency" parameter to 1kHz and "Space Frequency" parameter to 2kHz.
9. From the Simulink Library Browser, drag and drop a "Scope" block onto the model.
10. Connect the output of the "Frequency Shift Keying Modulator Baseband" block to the input of
the "Scope" block.
11. Run the simulation.
Results
When the simulation was run, the waveform on the scope appeared as follows:
Discussion
The simulation results show that FSK modulation can be easily demonstrated using Simulink. The
parameters of the FSK modulator can be easily adjusted to demonstrate different frequencies and
data rates. Simulink can also be used to simulate other modulation techniques and
communication systems.
Conclusion
In this simulation, we demonstrated FSK modulation using Simulink. The simulation results
showed that the frequency of the carrier signal can be varied to represent digital data. Simulink
provides a powerful tool for simulating communication systems and demonstrating modulation
techniques. The simulation results can be used to design and optimize FSK communication
systems.
