The Covid-19 Pandemic has drastically changed the lives of humans. It has changed the way we
work, behave, attend to our academic focuses and even how we have made use of the various
digital technologies that have been made available to us during the duration of the pandemic which
we still use on a regular basis.

Different Digital Technologies Used During Covid-19

According to Joel Le Bon (2020), digital capabilities have changed more during the covid-19
pandemic than it has in the previous five years prior to the pandemic. Here are a few ways in which
Covid-19 has enabled the use of more digital technologies during national lockdowns according to
ChatGPT AI 2023:

 E-Commerce: Covid-19 has made it possible for an expansion in the e-commerce businesses
such as Amazon, Shein and many other digital businesses. E-Commerce made it possible for
customers to shop for their basic needs and wants with the touch of a finger even under
unforeseen circumstances.
 Online Learning: During the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic, educational institutions were
forced to shut down, leading to an increase in online learning applications and forums being
created. Forums such as Blackboard Learn, Microsoft Teams and Google Classroom being
used by educators to broadcast lessons online and have interactive learning experiences
with their students.
 Social Media Platforms: Social Media Platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and
Skye played significant roles in keeping people connected to one another and enabled a
form of distant communication. These platforms also played a roll in keeping people
entertained with applications such as TikTok and YouTube.

What are computers in education?

According to Kajal Sharna (The Asian School, 1 February 2023), computers in education relates to the
usage of computers and other internet facilities to gain basic knowledge and operating skills to
perform jobs in a better manner.

The role and importance of Computers in Education for Teachers

Kristina Barraso (The Uses of Computers in Education, The Classroom – 2019) mentions that
computers are important for teachers as it enables them to record grades electronically, record
classroom attendance of students and it makes it easier to calculate learner averages using
computer programmes such as Microsoft Excel. Computers enable teachers to create PowerPoint

Presentations which are used during lessons and helps leaners with a sense of visual aids being
introduced to them.

Computers plays a significant role in our education system as it is also used to store learner names
and personal details, it stores lesson plans and enables an environment for progressive online
learning which we experienced during the Covid-19 Pandemic which began in 2020.

The difference between Information Technology and Computers in Education

Information Technology

 Riya Kumari (Analytic Step, 30 October 2020 uploaded on 4 February 2021) says that
Information Technology is the manipulation, storing and collecting that computers does with
information in its systems.
 One of the main roles of IT (Information Technology) is to keep itself aligned to a business’
objectives and help with the development of the business’ online systems which they have a
major role in doing.

Computers in Education

 Referring to the above-mentioned information on Computers in Education, it is believed that

it is the gaining of knowledge and basic computer skills which are used in our Educational
Systems with various uses.

Conclusion
In my opinion, there are not many differences in IT and Computers in Education, as it both
involves the use of external technologies which are brought into the Work and Schooling
environment that enables Technology to perform task that humans would have been doing
in their beknown environments and careers.
