I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. identify the theme of the story “The Two Brothers” by Leo Tolstoy;
2. value the importance of studying the lesson; and
3. arrange the event of the story using the plot diagram.
III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
Prayer: Class before we start our lesson, let us pray. (One student is called to lead the prayer)
Greetings: Good Morning, Grade 8! Good Morning Ma’am Jane! It’s always nice to see you.
Checking of the attendance: Is there absent today? (The class secretary will group the lists of absentees to the
teacher.)
B. Review: “Plot”
Class, before we start a new lesson for today, let
us recall first our lesson yesterday.
What was our lesson yesterday? Our lesson yesterday was about plot.

What is a plot? Plot represents the related or logical and sequential events
that take place within a literary text.

What are the main parts of a plot? The main parts of a plot are Exposition, Rising Action,
Climax, Falling Action, and Resolution.

C. Motivation: “4 Pics 1 Word”
The teacher will divide the students into 2 (Students will do the activity.)
groups consisting of 4 members each. The
teacher will post a set of pictures on the

F. Lesson Proper
Our lesson for today is about “The Two
Brothers” by Leo Tolstoy. (The teacher will tell the author’s biography.)
LEO TOLSTOY
On September 9, 1828, Leo Tolstoy was
born in Tula Province, Russia. In the 1860s, he wrote
his first great novel, War and Peace. In 1873, Tolstoy
set to work on the second of his best known
novels, Anna Karenina. He continued to write fiction
throughout the 1880s and 1890s. One of his most
successful later works was The Death of Ivan Ilyich.
Tolstoy died on November 20, 1910 in Astapovo,
