PROJECT DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS REPORT

The project development of the autonomous floating waste collector continued on

February 1, 2020 when the researchers consulted a fabricator in Sampaloc, Manila regarding the

total price for constructing the frame and programming. The fabricator estimated that the

autonomous floating waste collector would cost 138,000 pesos. One of the fabricators the

researchers consulted is Fablab. The fabricator already tried to make an autonomous machine

that can collect floating waste. The fabricator said that the capacity of the machine can collect

5kg of floating waste. The signal of the GPS in the midway of waterways disappear and not

accurate so the fabricator advised making the prototype semi-automatic.

With the features of semi-automatic, the machine can be remotely controlled in case of an

unexpected malfunction. The fabricator informed the researchers of the possible errors that the

researchers may encounter upon testing. The fabricator showed up the previous machine the

fabricators made and the materials used for the machine. The researchers tried to look for a

different fabricator because the estimated price is beyond the budget capacity for the prototype.

The researchers went to WireThemAll at Pedro Gil, Manila that fabricates and makes programs

for electronic projects and prototypes.

The researchers inquired for the construction of the prototype. The fabricator suggested

that instead of using weight sensor for monitoring of how much waste is collected, the prototype

must use a level sensor for accuracy and effectivity of the prototype. Another suggestion is that

the researchers must include an outrigger for the effective float or buoyancy of the prototype.

The researchers tried to consult a fabricator around Manila. The fabricator estimated that the

floating waste collector would cost 135,000 pesos.

The estimated price is still beyond the budget capacity for the prototype because the

estimated price is just less than 3,000 pesos compared to the first estimated price. On February 7,

2020, the researchers consulted an engineer from MMDA flood control to gather ideas for the

improvement of the autonomous floating waste collector. Engineer Angel suggested the design

of the prototype. The engineer offered to fabricate the frame of the prototype. On February 9,

2020, the researchers tried to consult a fabricator around Quezon City through phone call.
The estimated price for the autonomous floating waste collector would cost 150,000

pesos. The estimated price is still beyond the budget capacity for the prototype. The researchers

learned different ideas to improve the functionality and materials of the prototype as the

researchers tried to look for a fabricator. The researchers decided to accept the offer of the

engineer from MMDA flood control for fabrication of the frame. The researchers consulted a

programmer around Paranaque City for the functionality of the autonomous floating waste

collector. The programming of the prototype started on February 11, 2020.

The construction of the frame started on February 15, 2020. On February 19, 2020, the

researchers went to the MMDA flood control for the update on the construction of the frame. On

February 24, 2020, the researchers went to Paranaque City for the update on the program of the

prototype. The program of the prototype is being tested for the autonomous functionality. The

program is being tested on a two-wheel drive because the testing device has the same motor

functions.
On February 27, 2020, the researchers went to the MMDA flood control for the update on

the construction of the frame. The frame is still in progress with some design changes. The frame

of the prototype has an 8 feet total length, 2 feet total height, and 4 feet total width. The main

frame of the prototype is made of checkered steel plate. The autonomous floating waste collector

is estimated to be finished around 2nd week of March 2020 to 3rd week of March 2020.
