Title: Garbage Collector with Automated Sensor for Waste Segregation

INTRODUCTION

A problem that is addressed here in the Philippines for the past decades and still
now a dilemma especially in each community here in Davao. Since Davao is a big City,
garbage is a total conflict here and even how many projects the Barangay had put into
action, it seemed like there's no progress at all. Garbage is now one of the biggest
problem in the community and to solve that the researchers think of a project that will
not only be a great project at first but will surely solve the problem and will be use until
future generations. Therefore a best project to a better surrounding is what the
researchers have thought to make which is specifically a "garbage collector with
automated sensor for waste segregation" it will be a robot that will take garbage and
dispose it to its proper destination.

PURPOSE

Garbage Collector with automated sensor for waste segregation is been

proposed for the advantage the people will get. This project aims to lesser the count of
trash in any areas and segregate it for instant. This project aim to clean the community
and save the society from the problem of garbage for this project will be a huge solution
for waste management and waste disposal.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project will be a trash or garbage collecting robot which is allowed to collect
garbage in the body of land and water. This might be a great transformation of a high-
tech vacuum cleaner. The robot will collect large amount of trash and then will instantly
be segregated it to its proper places. Furthermore, the segregation will be process by
the sensor and the garbage will be place directly to big trash bins with different types
and category. And as for the garbage, the garbage will be collected and identified from
its category by the use of a sensor still.

OBJECTIVES

The project’s aim is not to eliminate all garbage of course but to lessen and
control it instead. It does aim to control and manage the problem of garbage disposal.

METHODOLOGY

The researchers come up with the steps to be approved by the barangay officials
with their proposed project. The first thing that the researchers did in their first week is
that they think of an idea on how they are going to present their project proposal. The
researchers also planned on how will they going to make their project to be successful.
And in the second week, the researchers decided to present their output to the
barangay officers through passing a letter proposal and to see if their proposed project
was approved. In their third week, their proposed project was now approved by the
barangay officials and the researchers continued with their plan. And as of the fourth
week, the researchers were able to achieve their plan, fifty-fifty. Their proposed project
went truly well because this project won’t take long to collect trashes. If only people
know how to throw their garbage properly, then it would be really much easier.

PROJECT NEEDS

Project hours cannot be estimated since the researchers uses bin and it depends
for when the bin will take full in order to stop working, it mostly takes to like 6-7 hours for
the bin to full. For the equipment, we listed down the items that needed to create the
project. These items are:

 Capacitive Sensor (₱15,699)

 Jumper Wires (₱2,320)
 Speaker (The expensive one/₱5,450)
 Header Pins (₱1,999)
 Battery Box (₱1,299)
 9-Volt Battery (₱13,799)
 Infrared Sensor (₱20,999)
 2 Servo Switches (₱6,500)
 Servomotor (₱5,600)
 4kg Metal Screws (₱2,600)
 Double Sided Foam Tape (₱100)
 3 Velcro Square (₱780)
 Arduino Microcontroller (₱29,550)
 Breadboard Wiring (₱4,950)
 3 Garbage Bins (₱1,500)

These materials are needed in order to create this project. The total amounts of
these items are ₱113,145. The costs are too high but required to help the netizens and
put an end to their problem. Since the researchers are not good at assembling things,
they will call 4 professional workers: 2 mechanical engineers and 2 electricians, for
them to assemble the project and in order to secure that nothing happens when working
and to ensure safety.

TIMETABLE

The time that will be consumed when collecting garbage and waste from rivers,
canals, streets, can’t be estimated, since it depends from the project. It will be done in
no time if there is less garbage and it would be most likely to be estimated. Regarding to
the project made, the estimated time for the project to be done might be up to five
weeks. On the first week, the researchers will buy the materials needed in their project,
any lacking materials will not work because every single item is important. On the
second week to third week, that’s the time that the workers will start working on the
project. It is a long process since we are talking about robots. And on the fourth week,
the project will be tested to see if it worked. Then after testing the project, on the fifth
week, the researchers will submit their project to the barangay officials and wil start
distributing their projects.
