RECAP

Teaching moral values through stories or poems is very old system of

moral education but until now the values that they teach are still timely and
relevant. So, it is important to consider the role of literature in moral
education which is a relevant medium for our learning as it is inspired from
our life experiences to correct our life actions.

LESSON

Musicians through their songs, are powerful carriers of influence. The sound
and messages they release through their art directly impact their listeners in
powerful ways. This is especially true of the youth and adolescents of our society.
One of the great singers who made the best music of his time that has a huge
influence in our society is John Lennon. His song “Imagine” asks listeners to envision
a world of peace and unity and remains one of the most well-known and respected
songs worldwide.

Artist: John Winston Lennon

Birthdate: October 9th 1940

Birthplace: Liverpool, England

Died: December 8th 1980

• John wrote his first song "Hello Little Girl" at the age of 18 and
continued writing music his whole life.
• He is a member of the Beatles, the most successful band in the
history.
• John mainly wrote songs that fall under the rock/soft rock and pop
category
• The topics that are mainly covered in his songs are about world peace,
love, and personal issues
• John grew interested in these moral issues based on personal
experiences he went through like getting a divorce, experimentation
with drugs and meeting Yoko Ono who changed his life.

Imagine
John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven

It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one.

The title of this song "Imagine" flows smoothly with the lyrics perfectly.
It portrays the imagination that John Lennon wants people to engage in, so
people will start imagining how different the world would be if all
divisions/borders between people and mankind just disappeared between us
for once.

Social justice is the view that everyone deserves equal economic,
political and social rights and opportunities

Learning to analyze and critically evaluate ideas, arguments, and points

of view requires that we consciously listen to messages. We must focus on
what is being said – and not said.
Why is effective listening skill important? Most of what we do is based
upon our understanding of the messages that have been conveyed to us.
Effective listening is an important skill to understand, interpret, and assess
what you hear in order to formulate appropriate reactions or responses. This
skill allows you to organize the information that you hear, understand its
context or relevance, make logical connections between ideas, determine the
truth, and draw conclusions.
Effective listening has three modes: attentive listening, responsive
listening, and active listening. Understanding these modes will help you
improve your listening accuracy and increase the opportunity to validate your
judgment and reaction especially on critical issues that can help you make
sound analysis and carry out proper actions.
A. Attentive Listening
Attentive listeners focus on the speaker and work hard to eliminate
distractions (such as ambient noise or poor delivery skills). They are also
patient and let the speaker finish their thoughts without interruption. While
not easy, attentive listening is essential for effective communication.
B. Responsive Listening
Responsive listeners demonstrate to the speaker that they are listening
and understanding what is being said, which encourages the speaker to
continue. Encouraging responses may include both nonverbal and verbal
cues:
Nonverbal Responses

• Smiling • Minimizing
• Appropriate facial distractions (turning
expression off cell phones, etc.)
• An affirmative nod of • Taking notes (under-
the head utilized way to
• Good (appropriate) eye broaden the depth of
contact learning)
• Leaning slightly
towards the speaker
Verbal Responses
• “Uh-huh”
• “I see”
• “Yes”
• “Really?”
• Occasionally repeating or paraphrasing short phrases to show
what you’ve heard.
C. Active Listening
Active listening is probably the most important listening skill. It is
“active” because it combines the skills of listening and responding without
invalidating the speaker’s comments, giving the speaker personal opinions,
advice.
Active listeners pay attention to what people say, how they say it, and
why they’re saying it. Then, once the listener feels they understand the
sender’s message, they paraphrase it back to the speaker to ensure
understanding prior to responding with their own answer or message.

words.

formulate appropriate reactions or responses, critical listening is very
important. Effective listening can be learned with practice but is not
necessarily easy to do.
Understanding the three modes of effective listening will help you
improve your listening accuracy and increase the opportunity to validate your
