LYCEUM TALK
-BY HARSH CHAUHAN AND MANAN VERMA

“FITNESS AND WELLBEING”

Health is paramount to life and necessitates the mind and body in good shape. It
does not mean gymming; instead, it covers a good diet, a mix of strength, flexibility,
endurance, sound sleep and mental peace.
On the 19th of November, 2022, the students of grades IX-XII gathered in the MPH
for a compelling and fascinating Lyceum Talk by Harsh Chauhan and Manan Verma.
This interactive talk started with a question– “How fit are you?” Seven volunteers were
asked to come up on the stage to show their skills, which they did by doing push-ups in
front of everyone. All the students cheered as the boys flexed their fitness, with Aayush
Singh emerging as the victor.
Then, the presenters described the importance of a healthy lifestyle to us. They told us
its value in the ever-changing world, using humorous slides and witty quips, keeping
the hour interesting for all present. They presented the topic in their best way to help
everyone realise how important is our physical, mental and social well-being and how
ignorant we are towards it. They also shared valuable tips for a healthy lifestyle. It was
an amazing talk that ended on a good note, with almost everyone happy. The questions
were tough, humorous and at the same time engaging too, which the speakers answered
well.

5th SelaQui Invitational Golf Championship

The school hosted the 5th edition of the SelaQui Golf Championship on the
12th and 13th of November. The championship was divided among two
divisions Junior Category and Senior Category. The Junior Category was
mixed. The first day of the championship was a practice day to get players
from the visiting schools accustomed to the golf course. The second day was
much awaited and filled with zeal and enthusiasm. Six schools, including the
host school, participated in the championship. Players were divided into four
groups consisting of players from all categories. The tee-off started at 9:00 am.
Players from all the schools put their best foot forward and played the course
with sheer determination. Apart from the winners, there were other awards,
too, like a maximum birdie. Technically, birdie is a golf term associated with
scoring one stroke less than the declared par of any given hole. It was awarded
to Harsh Pegwal from the Doon Valley School. Maximum Par Winner was
awarded to Samriddh Thakur for having the biggest margin from par. The
Centre line winner was awarded to Ranjan Kaswan. The winner of the
Junior Category was Vanya Sokhi from Mayo College Ajmer. The winner
from the Senior Category was Samriddh Chand Thakur from St. Patrick Golf

Reaching the Outreach

Females face stigma, harassment, and social exclusion based on menstruation. It
affects their mobility, restricts personal choices, and reduces school attendance and
community participation.
Thus, to create awareness on this sensitive topic, 18 girls from grade XI, under the
Students' Outreach Programme, were taken to a village for two nights in
Biharigarh on the 25th Nov. 2022.
After a comfortable night's stay and healthy breakfast at the farmhouse, we
headed directly to the village community hall to interact with the ladies on a
sensitive topic 'Menstrual Hygiene. We discussed with them the myths and the
facts associated with this taboo topic. They were educated on Hygiene and
Healthcare during these particular days through a Nukkad Natak, which
strengthened the purpose of our visit. We also distributed packets of sanitary
napkins among them.

We also went to Arthurfoot School, which is adopted by our school. It was fun teaching
the students. We had planned many activities which we did with them. The students
were excited to learn through the play-way method. After a day well spent as decided,
we returned to the farmhouse. However, we were exhausted but happy simultaneously
for the initiative taken by us with the support of our Headmaster.
Our evening was booked for a safari ride and interaction with the Headmaster on
various issues and solutions.
After a farm tour followed by an exciting soccer match and a sumptuous brunch, our
outreach program ended.
We thanked Mr Aslam Khan, Mr Asad Khan, Mr Hamza Khan and our Headmaster for
giving us the opportunity to contribute to this noble cause and for making our stay so
comfortable and entertaining. It was an unforgetful trip with lots of learning and
contentment, which we look forward to experiencing again in the days to come.

SeQuins’ Day Out!

A long-awaited tutor-tutee outing was scheduled on two consecutive Sundays,
which was fun!
Students of the Holding House and Girls' House went on their day out on 20
November 2022, whereas the boys of the other four Houses enjoyed their outing
on 26 and 27 November as per the schedule.
The excitement was visible in the students a day before their day out. Pacific Mall
Dehradun was the destination decided for us. Students watched their favourite
movies and had their favourite fast food at a happening food court, which offered
an array from desi street delights to Oriental cuisine, Mughlai to Continental,
Pizzas, and Burgers to sweet sinful Donuts.
Photographs were clicked as students wanted to relive the memories made with
their friends and mentors.
It was an amazing experience as everyone had a splendid time spent together.
We wish to get these outings more frequently as it increases our sense of
belonging and purpose, boost our happiness, and improve our self-confidence and
self-worth.

EXCHANGING CULTURE
AFS-The American field services deal with intercultural exchanges with the help of
student exchanges and coordinators that help to bring in diverse cultures in a
country. An All India National AFS meet was held at Sunbeams School, Varuna, in
Varanasi on the 17th,- 19th Nov. 2022. More than 50 schools participated with
their two representatives. Our first day of the Conference began with an ice-
breaking session between the student representatives where we got an opportunity
to interact and know about each other. A session was planned to educate everyone
about the rich cultural heritage of Varanasi. A conference was scheduled with the
board members of AFS and the Chairman of Sunbeams School on the second day
of our stay, followed by a heritage walk to Sarnath. A cultural evening was also
organised in the evening by the students of the participating schools. It was a
proud moment to receive the award for being adjudged as the best school in the
north zone for the AFS projects and practices we pursued.
On our last day of the programme, we visited Assi Ghat and Kashi Vishwanath
temple and enjoyed the glory of sunrise. We also interacted with Chris Hunter, a
former American professional basketball player. The course of these few days
enriched us with a great learning experience and fond memories.
