Geo-referencing is the process of assigning spatial

coordinates to data that is spatial in nature,
but has no explicit geographic coordinate system

Part I: Georeferencing Images (method 1)

In many projects, images may be captured digitally
(scanned, remotely sensed) etc). However, in
most cases the resulting images may not have
coordinate information associated with them. The
process of georeferencing will associate real world
coordinates with our images and allow us to
overlay them with our existing spatial data.

Part II:
15) Once all four control points have been added,
click on the Georeferencing Button and select
Update Georeferencing. This will write the spatial
coordinates of the scanned map to a file that
allows you to add the image to ArcMap documents
along with its geographic referencing
