SESI II :2022/2023
1.EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Industrial training is an important component in the educational diploma programme

offered by the Politeknik Ungku Omar. Industrial training course has been made compulsory
for all students and fresh graduates to improve their knowledge in field work and hand skills
that allows them to be able to adapt to the working environment that students will be faced
after the completion of studies. In addition, students will learn and get to know how to do or
perform a work which they will not learn by just studying books. As a final year student of
Politeknik Ungku Omar Session II 2022/2023, I had undergone an industrial training in order
to graduate Diploma from my Institute as a trainee at IRRIQUIP CONSTRUCTION SDN.BHD
KLANG, SELANGOR from 30 JAN 2023 – 16 JUNE 2023 in Wiring and Installation
Department. I had been given the job scope throughout my whole internship training which I
need to assist the technicians and engineers in equipment maintenance, wiring, component
installation, creating project plans and finish the other task given by my supervisor during my
internship. As a conclusion, I had learned many things other than what I learned during my
time at my Institute. These knowledges and experience are precious to me as I have never
been exposed to a real workplace. I highly appreciate the knowledge and experience that I
gained and will apply them in my future workplace.

2.2. Introduction of Company

The Company had its beginning from a small business setup in 1987 as a trading
company named ‘Hi-Pro Engineering’. Subsequently, in the early nineties, when the
golf industry emerged, we successfully became a sole distributor for a whole range of
golf irrigation products from Britain named ‘Watermation’ and ‘Nelson Walla Walla
Products’ from USA for Agricultural and Landscapes application.

The golf industry boom that followed resulted in the incorporation of a ‘Sendirian
Berhad’ on 5th July, 1993, under the name “IRRIQUIP SUPPLY SDN BHD.” Since then,
the company has been involved in numerous irrigation projects for golf courses in
Malaysia as well as Hong Kong and China.

In the last 4 to 5 years, IRRIQUIP has also been involved extensively in the design,
supply and installation of irrigation systems for durian farms and ‘Smart’ green houses
on a turnkey basis.
Smart Greenhouse and Irrigation Equipment

The controller is the brain of your entire system allowing you to gather data and
remotely control and monitor your critical equipment from your computer or
smartphone.

Whether you are looking to replace an older automation system that is experiencing
reliability issues or are intrigued by the new capabilities of new fully cloud connected
automatic grow systems that help you to:

• Improve labor efficiency by letting your team focus on higher priority

tasks
• Reduce energy consumption via dynamic temperature and irrigation
control that only uses what is necessary for your crop
• Improve crop quality and yield through fine grain adjustments in
nutrients and LED light parameters.
• Receive text or email alerts if the system detects something wrong
• Analyze crop analytics and historic data that you can combine with
other data such as labor, production, and plant data to optimize
cultivation schedule, etc.
• Use machine learning models to automatically adjust your equipment
for optimal energy efficiency and growth
Even small changes in the climate, lighting and nutrient dosages can cause your
plants stress which directly affects your plant's yield and quality.
Most systems use 3 main categories of systems to operate (1)Overall outdoor
environmental data. (2) Indoor environmental data and direct plant and soil sensor
data. (3) use this data from the first two systems to control dosing and light
schedules as well as actuators like shade screens and humidifiers to create the
perfect energy efficient climate:

2.6. Core Competencies of Company

IRRIQUIP CONSTRUCTION SDN.BHD. has these Core Competencies as their base

of technology in building Smart Greenhouse.

Monitoring
Various sensors are monitoring units for smart irrigation. The main sensors
are soil moisture sensor, wind speed sensor, evaporation sensor, leaf wetness
sensor, rain and snow sensor and data collector.

Controlling
Various control valves are the basis for automatic irrigation. Valves that
support remote switching include butterfly valves, pulse valves, ball valves,
etc. Choose different valves and water pipes according to different irrigation
areas.

Transmission
The monitored data signal and command signal are transmitted at the terminal
and the control terminal. If using lora wireless transmission, then the
transmission part is the lora gateway and data concentrator. If you use home
wifi, then the transmission part is the router and the monitoring host.

Terminal platform
The terminal platform is generally a software system for data sorting and
analysis. It can analyse data, store data and issue control instructions. The
platform software supports mobile phone and computer operations.
2.7. Product and Services of Company

1. Integrated Soil Moisture Sensor (RS485)

The soil moisture sensor is a device that directly measures whether the soil is
dry. Generally, the probe is inserted into the same depth as the root of the
plant, and the measurement result is more accurate. Soil sensors in different
areas are used with the nearest soil controller. Control irrigation in different
locations. The management platform can set high and low alarm values for
soil sensors in different regions. Once the soil moisture exceeds the alarm
value, the controller closes the water valve, and when the soil moisture falls
below the alarm value, the controller opens the water valve. According to
different soil types, we can choose different soil moisture sensors. Consumers
only need to confirm system compatibility when purchasing sensors.
2. Rain and snow sensor (RS – 485 Type)
When you are watering your lawn and it happens to rain, you are sure to stop
watering immediately. Watering in the rain wastes water and money, and
causes unnecessary runoff. Smart irrigation also has such a function. The rain
and snow sensor is the basis for realizing this function. There are metal wires
on the surface of the rain and snow sensor, which will conduct electricity when
it encounters rain or snow. An electrical signal is sent to the management
platform, and the platform notifies the controller to close the water valve in
time after receiving it.
3. Wind speed sensor (SEN0170)
Watering during windy times can reduce the uniformity of lawn irrigation
distribution and reduce the amount of water that seeps into the soil. We need
to install wind speed sensors that interrupt the irrigation cycle if the wind
speed exceeds a certain threshold. According to the current weather
conditions in the region, we rationally arrange the irrigation cycle and duration,
which can save a lot of water resources cumulatively.

4. TECHINICAL REPORT

As my intern position in IRRIQUIP CONSTRUCTION SDN.BHD. was a trainee in

wiring for greenhouse, I was instructed by my supervisor to follow the
commands of the technicians and work with them to do the complete wiring
for the components used inside the smart greenhouse.

4.1. Smart Greenhouse Installation

A smart greenhouse, also called an automated greenhouse, is a

high-tech "intelligent" greenhouse equipped with a computer-
controlled movable skylight, shading system, thermal insulation, wet
curtain/fan cooling system, spray drip irrigation system or drip
irrigation system, mobile seed bed and other automated facilities,
based on the agricultural greenhouse environment. The control of
an intelligent greenhouse is generally composed of three major
parts: signal acquisition system, central computer and control
system.
4.2. Automated irrigation System

Automatic irrigation is done with the aid of few components like sensors and so
on to perform the manual action in farming such as watering and cooling to be
done automatically. This kind of operation does not need manpower to do the
task.

4.2.1. Components that are used in Automated Irrigation

1) Wireless Irrigation Controller

Wireless irrigation controller, communicating with up to 32 RTUs. The controller is

equipped with a display and a set of push buttons, which allows to configure
watering in various ways. Our controller is responsible for 24/7 execution of
preconfigured watering schedule, soil state monitoring, events of failure, etc.
2) RTU

The RTU is maintenance free, solar powered, field unit, operates the magnetic
valves independently, designed for outdoor use with multiple mounting options. The
RTU can also sample and relay the reading of one sensor, analog soil moisture
sensor or any switch type sensor.
The RTU comes in two versions – one that can operate up to 2 valves and one that
can operate up to 4 valves.
5. CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

It has been 20 weeks, which is about 5 months I have done my internship

with IRRIQUIP CONSTRUCTION SDN.BHD. Throughout this journey, I have learned
a lot of things from this job. First of all, I learned about punctuality, which is very
important for my supervisor. If the work starts at 8.00 a.m., I should be at the site at
8.00 a.m.. My supervisor is very concerned on punctuality which now made me to
adapt it in my daily routine. Second thing is, doing a job in the right way. My
supervisor always advice and teach me the correct and most efficient way of doing a
work. He always used to say that everyone knows how to work but not everyone can
do it in the right way. That advice of him made me to look a job in different angle.
One more thing that I have learned from this intern journey is we have to always do a
clean and neat job. This is because the cleanliness in our job reflects how much
feeling do we have for that job. I really believe that these advices and tips will be
always useful to me to make myself better and better.

SUGGESTION

1) Need to train to work harder in a smart way.

-Throughout this journey, I felt like I do a job where I give all out from me and
suffer to do the work but my supervisor always teaches me a very effective
and efficient way to do the hard job in a smart way without any suffer.

2) Need to get more exposure.

- I feel that I need more exposure on field and office works because I don’t
know some terms and some simple things that a normal working guy
would know. This makes hard for me to co-operate and easily understand
thw communication while communicating with others.
