PART 1 SYSTEM

1.1 INFORMATION

• This work method statement covers the system to install LVT with grout on an existing tiling
system in internal wet areas, in accordance with industry best practice, relevant standards
and as per MAPEI technical data sheets (TDS).
• MAPEI provides technical data sheets (TDS) and safety data sheets (SDS) for all products
which should be read in conjunction with this Work Method Statement (WMS). Where
necessary, conduct a chemical risk assessment and SWMS to ensure each products’
correct and safe use. These documents can be obtained from www.mapei.com.au, or by
clicking directly on the products listed within the PDF.
• Products in this WMS can contribute towards satisfying the relevant Green Star credits. The
VOC content of products can be found under section 9 on the product SDS, while VOC
emissions certificates can be found on the product webpage.

1.4 SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

1. The existing tiles must be cleaned and de-greased. Where required for more difficult
contaminants, mechanically prepare the existing tiled substrate using a diamond grinder. Any
existing loose/dummy tiles or grout joints should be removed. Contact Mapei for further advice
as necessary.
2. General: All substrates must be structurally sound, dry, flat, solid and stable. Any dust, grease,
oil, paint, or other deleterious contaminants present on the surface of the exiting ceramic tile
floor substrate that may inhibit bond shall be mechanically removed as per point 1. The
substrate should then be cleaned and prepared in accordance with the relevant standards
and as per the MAPEI technical data sheets (TDS).

1.5 SMOOTHING COMPOUND

Smoothing compound to be chosen from the following options:

A. PLANEX HR - ☐
Rapid-drying, moisture-resistant, self-levelling smoothing mortar for floors.
• APPLICATION:
 Apply a suitable primer as per TDS.
 Pour 4 to 4.2 litres of potable water into a clean container then add the 20 kg
bag of PLANEX HR while using an electric mixer. Once a lump-free mix is
obtained, let it stand for 2 to 3 minutes then briefly remix.
 Spread levelling compound from 1 to 10 mm in thickness using a large metal
spreader at a slight angle to obtain the desired thickness.

B. PLANIPREP 4 LVT - ☐
Ready-to-use, grout smoother for loose-lay LVT. Floors and walls.
• APPLICATION:
 Mix the product in the bucket before use. Apply with a metal trowel over the
surface of the floor, moving the trowel diagonally to the grout joints.
 After two hours, the substrate may be sanded as required prior to laying LVT.
Ensure all dust is vacuumed.

1.6 ADHESIVE

A. ULTRABOND ECO MS 4 LVT WALL - ☐

One-component, silylated polymer-based adhesive for laying LVT on walls and floors.
• APPLICATION:
 Prior to the application of the adhesive, ensure the adhesive and floor covering
are acclimatised to the prescribed temperature and site conditions.
 Apply adhesive using a U1 or V1 notched trowel onto the substrate whilst the
adhesive is still fresh.

1.7 GROUT

Grout to be chosen from the following options:

A. FLEXCOLOR 4 LVT - ☐
Ready-to-use grout for Luxury Vinyl Tiles. Joints 2-5 mm wide. To be used in floors and
walls outside showers.
B. KERAPOXY 4 LVT - ☐
Two-component epoxy grout for LVT floorings. Can be used inside or outside of showers.

• APPLICATION:
 Mix the product in strict accordance with the TDS.
 Spread the grout with a rubber float to completely fill the grout joints. Remove
excess material, clean and finish the grout while it is still fresh in accordance
with the TDS.

1.8 LVT PROTECTIVE COATING

A. MAPECOAT 4 LVT - ☐
Two component aliphatic, anti-slip polyurethane finish in water dispersion for LVT.
• APPLICATION:
 Mix the product and apply one coat with Ultracoat roller T3 or airless spray
system in accordance with the TDS.
 To be applied to all floor areas and the walls inside the shower cabin.
1.9 SILICONE
A. MAPESIL AC - ☐
Solvent-free, acetic crosslinking mildew resistant silicone sealant.
• APPLICATION
Apply silicone to perimeters, internal corners, and other areas as required in
accordance with the TDS.
