WORK POLICY & METHODOLOGY FOR WATERPROOFING WORKS -


TOILET / UTILITY / SIT-OUT / BALCONY.

1. Scope:
 This procedure provides a method of control for “Waterproofing Works - Toilet / Utility / Sit-
Out / Balcony” in order to achieve compliance with the specifications and drawings.

2. Drawing Reference:
 Block Layout / Architectural Drawings / Relevant Drawings.

3. Tools:
 Trowel, Mixing Platform, Straight Edge, Measuring Box, Mixing Pan, Mixing tools for chemicals,
etc.

4. Tradesman:
 Water proofing contractor & workers.

5. Wok Policy:
5.1. Waterproofing for Toilet/Utility/Sit-out /Balcony shall be started only after completion of
minimum three floors of internal plastering in each block.
5.2. Waterproofing activity has to be started from first floor onwards as the ground floor is mainly
used for access and storage purpose. Ground floor waterproofing can be taken up at a later
stage.
5.3. Before starting of waterproofing all the plumbing lines, electrical works in toilets should be
completed including testing. Special care to be taken for connecting A.C drain pipe to floor trap.
5.4. Core cutting on floor to be marked by the plumbing engineer and precaution to be taken to do
core cutting to the required sizes as specified viz. 125 mm for 110 mm dia, 90 mm for 75 mm dia
etc.
5.5. Project Manager should allocate specific team for waterproofing works.
5.6. Proper lighting to be provided during the work, if required.

5.7. Proper protection to the ventilator/window opening must be provided at debris chute series.
5.8. Removal of debris, rod cuttings if any, removal of laitance in the water proofing area has to be
carried out prior to start of water proofing works and the execution team is responsible for this
activity.
5.9. After removal of debris and cleaning of the area, Block In charge has to handover the floor to
the waterproofing team.
5.10. Mockup should be done for every block and has to be approved.

6. Methodology:
6.1. In-depth cleaning of the area and loose material removal with wire brush and using
mechanical means is the responsibility of water proofing agency.

6.2. Roughness by hacking of bore hole inner surface & edge at slab top must be done for
bonding purpose.

6.3. Wall & slab junction area hunching (15x15mm) at toilet /utility & (45x45mm) at sit-out to be
done to arrest the water leakages & dampness.

6.4. Manufactured and expiry dates of the material has to be checked prior to the commencement of
water proofing works. Only sealed containers or packets are to be allowed.
6.5. Waterproofing for the entire floor toilets has to be started at a time.

6.6. PVC pipes/sleeves outer surface to be roughened and sprinkle coarse sand over epoxy bonding
coat prior to fixing in bore hole for good bonding.
6.7. PVC Sleeves should be fixed by the plumbing agency under the supervision of plumbing in
charge.

6.8. Bore packing of the above floor has to be completed totally prior to the commencement of the
water proofing of that particular floor.

6.9. Weep holes to be preferably located near the wet area floor trap, and the proposed protective
plaster or screed must be sloped towards the weep hole.

6.10. Pond test 1- Water should be kept on the floor and made stagnant for 72hrs to check for any
leakages in the slab

6.11. If any leakage is observed after 1st pond test, points need to be identified from the positive side.
If the leakages are due to cracks developed in the slab, then the crack needs to be treated by
opening in the form of “V” Groove and the V groove should be cleaned and applied with SBR
latex or approved equivalent bonding agent & filling to be done with non-shrink grout.

6.12. If required: Carrying out the pressure grouting operation by drilling the 14mm dia holes and
fixing the 10mm dia nozzles using fast setting cement renderoc plug with a spacing of 500mm
C/C along the construction joints at horizontal and vertical joints.

6.13. After 12hrs, injecting neat cement slurry mixed with expansive additive Cebex
100@225gms/bag of cement.

6.14. Again water on the floor should be made stagnant for another 24hrs to trace out any unseen
leaks.
6.15. Water proofing treatment has to be done as per the approved method statement of that
particular applicator.
6.16. Check list format is to be pasted on the wall of the sunken area, so that one can know the actual
status of work and the concerned person who has checked.
6.17. Access to be restricted to the water proofed area after completion of work.

6.18. Pond test 2- After completion of protection plastering water should be kept for 7 days.

6.19. Monthly reconciliation of waterproofing materials to be done to ascertain the actual


consumption.

7. Quality Control & Quality Assurance:


7.1. Water proofing materials should be conformed to the relevant standards.
7.2. Work policies are to be monitored and are to be strictly implemented at site.
7.3. Ensure Manufactured and expiry dates of the chemicals.
7.4. Check for leakages and dampness on ceiling of lower floor.

8. Safety:
8.1. Safety PPE’s will be provided for workers.

8.2. First aid box will be provided at the site office.
