ENVIRONMENT EDUCATION (CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT)

On the first week of April 02, 2022, in the afternoon, the Environment Education
(climate change and environmental management) webinar was conducted on Microsoft
teams, and more than 150 audiences joined the webinar including teachers, facilitators, and
freshmen students from different department of Holy Infant College and lastly our guest
speaker from OIC Chief Amblent Section of Environment Management Bureau.
Furthermore, the focus on how we are going to do in terms of environmental education,
why it is important to our living, how we would apply the education about the environment
in our true life, to learn the basic concepts of climate change, and be a good citizen for a
good example by sharing the environment education.
The webinar started by opening prayer, then follow the National Anthem, HIC hymn,
and a welcome message from Elena C. Bernabe the NSTP coordinator. The speaker started
talking about the overview of climate change. Which, he differentiates climate change and
weather because climate change is long-term average weather in one place while the
weather is a condition at one particular time and place. Following, he discussed also climate
change systems were here in the Philippines we have four climate types based on Modified
Coronas Classification System, the greenhouse effect and global warming were mentioned
by the speaker. The greenhouse gases are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous
oxide, and ozone. While the importance of greenhouse gases, how greenhouse gases
influence climate change, the natural greenhouse effect, the human enhanced greenhouse
effect, and lastly the sources of greenhouse gases were tackled by the speaker.
Furthermore, he discussed also climate change which is attributed directly or indirectly to
human activity, then know the difference between global warming and climate change we
have a lot of tropical cyclones that happened in our country, and there are also ten
indicators of a warming world.
Additionally, the speaker was able to talk about the key impacts as a function of
increased global average temperature change. The climate change impacts, evidence of
climate change, global warming: indicate of climate change was shown on the screen if the
global temperature rising. From 1993 to 2000 the thinning of Actic sea-ice, a retreat of non-
popular glaciers, and show then different typhoons that we have been experienced in our
country, including the landslide in Southern Leyte and Quezon, and what are the
manifestations/signals of climate change, the linkage between climate change and other
environmental issues were mentioned by the speaker. More specifically, the Philippines is
vulnerable to global warming/climate change. Because our country is highly vulnerable,
highly susceptible to flooding and inundation, low agricultural productivity, and highly
susceptible to loss of biological resources, highly susceptible to illnesses was under the
vulnerabilities that were discussed by our speaker. Thus, he talked about what we can do in
terms of climate change and global warming because we have adaptation measures,
agriculture, slope stabilization through vegetation to avoid the possible landslide in the
future, coastal areas, health sector, energy sector, an adaptation of EbA in Urban
Ecosystems, and early warning systems are the way to lessen the climate change in the
future. Significantly, the awareness and information dissemination as adaptation strategies
to climate change, mitigation measures/strategies then the climate change is a core
development issue was discussed.
Therefore, the legal and policy framework on climate change in the Philippines,
where the President 23 of October 2009 signed the climate change Act of 2009 (RA 9729).
Thus, some information about the concerns about climate change was facts to help to
lessen the effects of climate change. The Philippines’ strategy on climate change adaptation
(2010-2022), National climate action plan (NCCAP) 2011-2028, DRR-CCA Integration into the
Philippines Environmental Impact Statement Systems (PEISS).
In the last part, Eva Simbajon was the one who present the certificate of
appreciation to our guest speaker from the OIC Chief Amblent Section of the Environmental
Management Bureau. Certificate of Appreciation is awarded to Arnel L. Ife for sharing his
expertise with the HIC (NSTP-CWTS) students as a resources speaker in “Environment
Education Climate Change and Environmental Management” held on April 02, 2022, at Holy
Infant College. After the intermission number was presented by the BSN Department the
closing message from Sir Joel O. Dejarlo and that’s the end of our webinar for today.
LEARNING INSIGHT
In my personal point of view, I know that this is hard to achieve or maintain the life
that we have been through it just like the environment it’s easy to say that we can take care
of our mother earth but no one is doing good to take care our environment. In a simple way,
we can help to lessen the effects of global warming and climate change if we understand
that environment is essential in everyone’s life on this earth. Especially, for those next
generations who are going to live in this world, we must think that they can able to do the
same if we do good things in our generations. This is a big help for those people who cannot
understand the life of living in this world.
