LOL. At α = 0.01, is 65% a valid proportion for high school students who play LOL in the province?

5. Mr. Amores, the Filipino coordinator of Novu International School, wants to know the proportion of
their students who can fluently speak Filipino. He chose a sample of 45 students and from this group he
identified 9 students who can fluently speak the language. At α = 0.05 test the claim that less than 35%
of the students are fluent Filipino language speakers.

6. Lloyd, a biology student, wants to determine the percentage of Filipinos who are at risk of
hypertension. According to Dr. Tayag, his uncle, the percentage of hypertensive Filipinos is 65%. Lloyd
surveyed 250 random individuals of which 150 are hypertensive. At alpha = 0.1 test Dr. Tayag's claim.

7. A TV commercial states that 7 out of 10 dentists recommend brand X toothpaste. Among the 25
dentists interviewed, only 16 recommended brand X toothpaste. At α = 0.01 , validate the statement
presented in the commercial.

8. At Juco's College of Science and Technology (JCST), 150 students are surveyed and 20 of them were
found to have OFW parents. At α = 0.05 are there more than 13% of the students at JCST who are
children of OFW parents?

9. The quality control officer of a company that manufactures keyboards wants to determine the
percentage of defective keyboards from the day's output. From a sample of 100, he found 3 defective
keyboards. Test the hypothesis that there are more than 20% defective keyboards from the day's output.

10. Ms. Malig wishes to determine the prevalence of Down syndrome (Trisomy 21) in the country. In a
certain region, 2 out of 100 children are diagnosed with Down syndrome. Using α = 0.05 is there enough
evidence to prove that the prevalence of Down syndrome in the country is less than 2%?

13. Joana claims that the average annual profit of food carts is at least ₱1 000 000. On a sample of 5
owners of food carts, an average of ₱1 500 000 annual profit is reported with a standard deviation of
₱51 000. At 𝛼 = 0.05, verify if the claim of Joana is true or not.

14. An experiment was conducted to compare anxiety levels among children induced between looking at
real snakes and pictures of snakes. The following data were collected from a sample of 10 children with
ophidiophobia (fear of snakes). Use α= 0.01. Is there a significant difference between the anxiety scores
of looking at real snakes or pictures of snakes?
