PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet
Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

The organization I am choosing for my case study is XYZ Credit Union. XYZ Credit
Union is a local credit union operating in a few cities within Arizona. It is a relatively
small organization employing about 1000 employees. The organization is heavily
regulated by government sector, state and NCUA, due to it being a financial institution.
The organization is very active in the community and is known for giving back to its
members, employees, and community.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

My role in the organization is an employee. I am a loan processor and work under the
lending department. I have been an employee with the credit union for 8 years.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

About 4 years ago, XYZ Credit Union began cutting departments and laying people off to
downsize. When I began working for the credit union in 2015, everyone talked about how
the credit union never laid people off, not even during the 2008 recession. Witnessing
people begin to lose their jobs due to cutbacks really made everyone feel surprised and
uneasy as it was a very unexpected event. I was sitting at my desk, working with my
department, when I began hearing people whispering about what was going on. The news
spread really quickly and we began questioning our department leaders if we were going
to lose our jobs. We were all very upset about how top leaders handled this because they

left everyone in the dark and no one knew what was happening and why it was
happening. It was very difficult to learn that the organization was laying off employees
through office rumors instead of leadership.
