continuous data; (c)cross sectional and time series data (d) numerical and categorical
data.
2.Define the four measurement levels and give an example of each.
3.Which type of data (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio) is each of the following
variables? Explain.
a. Number of hits in Game 1 of the next World Series.

3.Condé Nast Traveler conducts an annual poll of subscribers in order to determine
the best places to stay throughout the world.Table below is a sample of nine European
hotels from one of their polls. The price of a standard double room during the hotel’s
high season range from $(lowest price) to $$$$(highest price). The overall scores
includes subscriber’s evaluations of each hotel’s
rooms,service,restaurants,location/atmosphere,and public areas;a higher overall score
corresponds to a higher level of satisfaction.

e. What is the average number of rooms for the nine hotels?
f.Compute the average overall score.
g. What percentage of hotels located in England?

5.The price of a commodity increased by 8% from 1993 to 1994, 12% from 1994 to
1995, and 76% from 1995 to 1996. The average price increase from 1994 to 1996 is
quoted as 28.64% and not 32%. Explain and verify the result.
Hint:Use Geometric Mean and compare it to Arithmetic Mean
6.X started a journey to a village 9 km away from his house. He travelled by car
driving at a speed of 40 kmph. After travelling 6 km, the car stopped running. He then
travelled by rickshaw at a speed of 10 kmph. After travelling a distance of 2.0 km, he
left the rickshaw and covered the remaining distance on foot at a speed of 4 kmph.
Find his average speed and verify the calculation.
Hint : Use Harmonic Mean
