Introduction:
A discussion among friends after their classes about a current controversy involving how hospitality
workers are treated is taking place and their personal problems which later led to barriers. They run into
communication barriers, such as physical barriers (external factors) and psychological barriers (internal
factors), which interfere, cultural barrier wherein they differ in terms of tradition which became the reason
of why they had a difference in relating to one another, and lastly, linguistic barriers wherein the use of
slang words gave confusing during their conversation.

Roles:
Ann-Ann- A shy person who is scared to voice out her thoughts due to past experiences that led her to
lose her confidence.
Ayman- The neutral and chill person.
Hadee- The typical adolescent male, loud and stubborn.
Janna- A good friend who is willing to listen and will encourage her friend to voice out.
Johanna- A well off friend who always goes with the trend and is always extra but has the heart of not
wanting her friends to get humiliated or disrespected.

Live Podcast Script:

Johanna: Hay! It’s so hot, I need a fruit tea with level beginner sugar level, normal ice, and extra popping
boba! Anyways, Janna, do you have tea or can you spill a tea?
Janna: Huh? What tea? Why am I gonna bring tea to the school? Why am I gonna spill and waste a tea?
(Barrier - Linguistic Barrier)
Johanna: What I mean is gossip duh!
Janna: Then, how is gossip called tea?
Johanna: Hmm I think it’s because people back then drink their preferred hot or iced tea whenever they
share gossip with their friends. So, do you got anything? (Function - to inform)
Janna: As of now, I don't because I’ve been really busy with the workloads I have for our organization.
How about you guys? Do any of you guys have one?

(Ayman and Hadee will disagree through body language.)

Ann-Ann: I do have! So, have you heard about the recent issue?
Janna: Wow, that’s new ha?
Johanna: Huh? What? Tissue? Omg where's my P.A? Can you give me my tissue, it’s still so hot! Like
me!
Ann-Ann: Oh no! What I mean is the recent controversy, issue.
Ayman: Oh the one about when a customer celebrated her birthday in a restaurant?
Johanna: The one the customer makes pahid pahid the chocolate icing to the face of the waiter? What's
the problem about it? When I celebrated my birthday, I also made pahid to the face of the waiter. I mean
it’s okay, it’s part of their job. He is just a waiter duh.
Ann- Ann: Uhm For me, It’s not okay because I think it disrespects the waiter.
Janna: Hmm, I also think it is not okay because it somehow humiliates the waiter. What the customer did
may be acceptable if they did that to their close friends and family.

(Insert Physical Barrier: Johanna’s P.A will keep on calling her on her cellphone.)

Johanna: Oh my gosh! I’m sorry for the disturbance!

(Johanna answers her phone and will talk to her PA while whispering)

Ayman: This is not completely fine. By doing that, we invade the personal space of the waiter. That’s
why I always practice claygo wherever I go to somehow help the waiters and lessen their burden.
Hadee: Huh? What’s claygo pre?
Ayman: How come you don’t know about that? It means clean as you go. Whenever you eat, you’ll be
the one to clean the area you occupied as well as the utensils that you have used, so that you’re good to go
and the area would be available for the next person to occupy it.
Janna: That’s right!
Ann-Ann: Yes, that’s true. Even I, myself, do it whenever I’m at home, school cafeteria, and even fast
food chains, or restaurants.

(Hadee will tease Ann-Ann for knowing everything, mocking what she said)

Hadee: Yes, that’s true. Even I, myself, do it whenever I’m at home, school cafeteria, fast food chains, or
restaurants. (in a girly mocking voice)
Janna: Uy! Stop it, it’s not helping her!

(Hadee will continue to mock Ann-Ann)

Hadee: Yes, that’s true! (in a girly voice)
Ayman: Stop it, pare.

(Insert Psychological Barrier- Ann-Ann would start to get shy showing body language of being shy and
terrified. )

Johanna: Hey, hadee! Say sorry or something? You know na nga that she’s shy and that she’s slowly
having the confidence to speak even if there’s other people around then you’d mock her like that.

(Hadee will continue to mock Ann-Ann and even Johanna)

Johanna: Can you please stop? It is not funny anymore. (Function - To control or regulate.)
Janna: You know what? Don’t mind him. We appreciate you for voicing out your thoughts and ideas.
Don’t hesitate to talk and share it with us. We are more than willing to listen to you! (Function- To
motivate)

(Johanna’s phone starts to ring again)

Johanna: Oops sorry! It’s my PA once again ruining the moment. She is so annoying! Why is everyone
so annoying?!
Ayman: You can just mute your phone or tell her to call you later. (Tip to avoid the physical barrier)
Johanna: Okay, I’ll mute my phone now.
Janna: Yeah that’s right you should do that! So as I was saying, Ann-Ann, please don’t hesitate to voice
out your thoughts and ideas.
Ann-Ann: Thank you! I really appreciate your kindness. I am slowly trying to not be scared of voicing
out my thoughts. It’s a hard process so I do hope you guys understand and will have the patience.
Ayman: Hey, it’s okay! Don’t rush yourself, you’ll eventually get there. We understand how you feel.
(Tip to avoid Psychological barrier- 7 Cs Courtesy)
Ann-Ann: I really appreciate you guys!
Hadee: Okay! Okay! I’m sorry. I get it now. I know it’s hard for you and it is a long process, so I’m sorry
again for mocking you. (Tip to avoid Psychological barrier- 7 Cs Courtesy)
Ann-Ann: I understand, just don’t do it again. Let’s talk about something else!
Second topic - Personal Issues

Ayman: Anyways, how is everyone doing? (Function - to facilitate emotional expression)

Ann-Ann: I’m actually doing quite well because you guys know that I’m now slowly overcoming my
traumas and fear. How about you, Janna?
Janna: I’m quite packed with studies and my extracurricular activities because I have been assigned to
assist in the graduation photoshoot of the grade 12 students. Even though I am quite shy to tell you guys
my problems, I’m somehow not okay because I feel pressured to be part of the honor list while attempting
to apply for an award as well, and I also feel pressured to pass the college entrance examination in the
school my parents want. I feel so exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Ann-Ann: Aww, know that we’re so proud of you, Janna! You must remember that it’s okay to take a rest,
relax, recharge, and continue your purpose. Even though your parents pressures you, we know that you
got it.

(Janna will hug Ann-Ann as showing of appreciation)

Ayman: Yes, even my parents pressures me in my academics but you know, I go with the flow doing my
best. How about you, Hadee?
Hadee: I’ve been really busy with my social life, pare! Road trip here, vacation there, hangout with my
friends every time. You all know that my motto is Y.O.L.O always.
Johanna: Huh, Yolo? Yolo Pascual? (Barrier - Linguistic Barrier)
Ann-Ann: Hay, Johanna. You’re rich sana but your hearing is completely the opposite.
Johanna: At least being rich will bring me to Paris, my hearing won’t.
Hadee: Well, your earring won’t really lead you anywhere.
Johanna: Hearing, hadee. Hearing!

(Hadee Laughs)

Ayman: Stop it you guys.

Janna: What I think Hadee means is that it follows the saying “You Only Live Once.”
Johanna: Aww, okay. Thank you for teaching me, my bestie sugar plum! You’re the best!
Janna: But, how are you, Johanna?
Johanna: (pauses for a couple of seconds not knowing what to say) I think, I’m okay?
Janna: Okay?
Johanna: Yes, just okay. I’ve been having issues with my parents.
Ann-Ann: If you’re comfortable to share it with us, you may share it. But, if you don’t, we understand.
Johanna: It’s okay. I pity my baby brother because my parents discipline him physically even though he’s
just a year old. I mean, what does this little boy know?
Ayman: What’s wrong with it?
Johanna: I mean, the fact that they’re using their hands to discipline an innocent child is really wrong.
Janna: Why, Ayman? Do you think it’s okay?
Ayman: In our household, we’ve been used to being disciplined by the adults physically. They spank us
with hangers, belts, or even a stick of bamboo. (Barrier - Cultural Barrier)
Johanna: What? That’s not okay, when my real father was alive he never lifted his hands on me but ever
since my mother married my stepfather he started lifting his hands on my baby brother. I think it’s
because of the practice difference because he came from another nationality so he’s also from a different
culture.
Ayman: I don’t really know what to say anymore because it’s normal in our culture.
Ann-Ann: Don’t worry we understand that we all have different cultures. (Tip to avoid Cultural barrier-
7 Cs Courtesy)
Ayman: Thanks! Johanna, you must remember that we’re here to be with you at all times.
Janna: We are with you all the time, okay?
Johanna: Aww, thank you so much, guys!
Ayman: 3, 2,1 cut!
Janna: And that’s it for today’s episode of different types of after classes discussions of students. We
hope you guys enjoyed today’s episode.
Johanna: We hope to see you guys on our next one!
All: Bye!
