1.0 Company background

Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad is an acronym for FGV. FGV is a

Malaysia-based agri-business listed on the main market of Bursa Malaysia on 28 June
2012. The initial public offering which was the world’s third largest raised RM10.4 billion.
It was initially incorporated as a commercial arm of Federal Land Development Authority
(FELDA) in 2007 to oversee investments in the upstream and downstream palm oil
businesses as well as other agri-businesses. FGV is supported by a strong workforce of
more than 45,000 people. They are focused primarily on three core business sectors:
Plantation, Sugar, and Logistics. With 50 years of industry expertise, we are committed
to continuously drive a sustainable business, whilst tapping into new revenue streams
from the circular economy to create more value.

On 22 February 2022, With the newest improvement to its paddy rice farming
operation, FGV Holdings Berhad (FGV), through its subsidiary FGV Integrated Farming
Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (FGVIF), keeps bolstering the local market for fragrant rice.
Supporting the MAFI's Large-Scale Smart Paddy Field Programme (Smart SBB), FGV
has increased the area of its granary fields from 577 ha in 2017 to 625 ha for the current
planting season in both of Smart SBB's projects in the Integrated Agricultural
Development Area (IADA) Barat Laut, Selangor, and the IADA Seberang Perak, Perak.
About 350 of FGV's current local contract farmers will benefit from the increased planting
hectarage allotment, up from 265 farmers last year. This could mean an increase in
income of RM1,540 per metric tonne (MT) of paddy produce for these farmers.

2.0 Latest Technology

Name of technology: DJI T20 Agras Drone Technology

2.1 Introduction

FGV Integrated Farming has successfully transformed the local rice and paddy industry
by implementing the Fortified Field Wangi Rice program for the effective cultivation of
fragrant rice. This program is a comprehensive cultivation system that integrates rice
farming through the use of smart farming practices, mechanization, automation, and
Internet of Things technologies. The initiative combines his FGV expertise in research,
agronomy, crop nutrition, drone technology, and remote monitoring to increase the yields
of fragrant rice.

The Wangi Rice Program has proven its effectiveness in local fragrant rice cultivation.
One of the reasons for the program's success is the use of T20 drone technology. Based
on reports, applying T20 drone technology in fields can speed up the fertilization process
as well as pest and disease control by farmers. With the internal capabilities, resources,
and various applications of FGV technology, the locally produced fragrant rice is of high
quality and comparable to imported rice from Thailand.

This drone is also used for mapping agricultural areas and crop health monitoring,
allowing for the treatment of affected areas. When drones were used from the rice field
level to the 'hyperspectral imaging' aspect for disease and pest control, the method used
in the Fortified Field Wangi Rice program became a new benchmark in the country's rice
industry.

4
The drone can traverse 12 hectares each hour and has a 20-liter carrying capacity. The
T20 can spray at a rate of 6 L/min because of its eight nozzles, a four-channel
electromagnetic flow meter, and high-volume pumps. Users of the T20 can quickly set
flight and operation parameters. Additionally, precision spraying is achievable when the
centimeters-level waypoint recording, RTK dongles, and built-in RTK centimeters-level
positioning system are used.

In addition to its powerful spraying powers, the drone features a new spread system 2.0
that gives it the ability to carry out additional tasks, such as spreading seeds, fertilizer,
and other solid materials at a pace of 10kg per minute, if necessary. An omnidirectional
digital radar that is built into the drone for safety allows it to recognize and avoid objects
while flying.

5
2.2 Objectives of development

• To survey topography and boundaries at the paddy field.

• To produce 3D maps that can be used to conduct soil analysis on soil property,
moisture content, and soil erosion.
• To monitor tree and livestock growth, disease control, weed, and pesticide
control

2.3 Procedure

Step 1: Place the Battery into the Controller-

You need to charge the controller battery first. After completing that, you should insert the
battery into the controller. This process is as simple as it seems. There is a button
on the lower end of the RM500-AG when you turn it on its back. When you push
it, the cover will pop open, allowing you to insert the battery, snap it down, and
then connect your battery.

Step 2: Turn the Controller on-

If you've never used a DJI remote controller before, you'll need to press the power button
once, then press and hold it until the LEDs begin to blink. At that point, your
controller will be turned on. You also need to be aware that the drone needs to be
configured at this point. All initial steps must be completed before you fly, including
signing into your DJI account and setting the date and time after connecting to the
Wi-Fi.

Step 3: Connect the RTK Dongle into the Controller-

Now you can insert the RTK Dongle into the USB-A port on your remote controller. The
drone's GPS and location memory will be under the RTK Dongle's control. It is
advised to utilise just the DJI proprietary RTK dongle.

6
Step 4: Check the Weight of the Drone-

The drone weighs 21.1 kg overall, without including the AGRAS T20 battery. The spray
tank may hold a maximum of 20L, and the takeoff weight is typically 42.6 kg.
Therefore, before taking off, you should determine the overall weight of the drone.
The maximum weight capacity is 47.5 kg, so if you're wondering how much you
can securely weigh it, make sure it doesn't take more into account.

Step 5: Map the Operation Area-

Using the RTK dongle is the most effective technique to plan the operation area. It is
attached to the remote control. It's time to plan the work area now. Select Plan a
Field from the home screen, then RTK dongle. You will then proceed to walk while
using the RTK. Once the configuration is finished, select RTK source under
settings and wait until the system status bar goes green.

Step 6: Fly Your Drone With a Single Press-

There isn't much left after selecting an operation area with the RTK dongle. The AGRAS
T20 drone is a very effective autonomous drone that can fly and avoid damage
and obstructions. If you've marked the operation area, go to Plan a Field and
choose Fly the Aircraft. The drone will take off, and you'll be given the option to
watch the live feed of the T20 drone's FPV camera.

2.4 Costing
No. Detail Description
1 DJI AGRAS T20P RM30,600.00
The T20 drone can traverse 30 acres
(12 hectares) per hour and carry up to
20 liters (20 kilograms) per mission.
It is equipped with eight nozzles and
high-volume pumps which can
dispense liquids at rates of up to six
litres per minute.

3.0 Conclusion

In conclusion, as part of its future business strategy, FGV aims to further expand the use
of drone technology for agro-food production. This facilitates access to supply chain data
from farmers as well as other stakeholders and consumers in the chain. This leads to
improved traceability of food production.

This program at FGV supports the Large Scale Smart Paddy Program (Smart SBB)
launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) and it is currently
being implemented on crop fields in Selangor with more than 100 designated by local
contract farmers. The total area that produces the yield is expected to increase over the
next three years and will achieve the target for GDP in Malaysia.
