REPORTED SPEECH
El Reported Speech nos ayuda a comunicar lo que ha
dicho otra persona, contar algo que alquien más dijo,
utilizando un estilo indirecto o la voz pasiva, ya que no
es un mensaje nuestro.
ACTIVE/PASSIVE VOICE
Hasta éste momento hemos trabajado con la voz
activa, ya que nos referimos a un mensaje directo y se
da protagonismo al sujeto, el objeto pasa a segundo
término. En la voz pasiva, se invierte el orden, dandole
protagonismo al objeto gramatical, en lugar de al
sujeto. Cambiando de presente a pasado.

I send him text messages every day


Text messages were sent by me every day.
PASSIVE VOICE
Passive Voice nos ayuda entonces a comunicar lo que
alguien más dijo, tiene la peculiaridad de no requerir el
autor, es decir, transmitir el mensaje sin decir quien lo
dijo, ya sea porque no lo sabemos o no queremos
decirlo. Es una estructura común cuando se cuenta un
chisme.
PASSIVE VOICE (structure)
ACTIVE VOICE: The children ate the cake
PASSIVE VOICE: The cake was eaten by somebody.

Object + verb to be (past simple) + action verb (past


participle) + by + subject

My house was built in 1893


The book was read by the kids
The perfume was worn by her
STEPS
1. Identify the subject, verb and object
2. Make the object the subject (change the order)
3. Check the tense of the action verb
4. Add past to be (verb to be in past) according to the
object
5. Switch the action verb to past participle
6. Add the subject, who does the action, if wanted

AV: He built the house for his parents


PV: The house was built by him for his parents
PV: The house was built for his parents
EXAMPLES
Jonathan wrote the poems
The poems were written by Jonathan

My neighbour sells drugs


He said that his neighbour sold drugs
Drugs were sold by his neighbour

Esa chica esta embarazada


AV: That girl is pregnant
PV: He said (that) that girl was pregnant
