As a researcher you have the option of doing qualitative or quantitative research.

Qualitative research is undertaken to get a better knowledge of a phenomena via the

collecting and interpretation of nonnumerical data. On the other hand, quantitative studies

gather and evaluate numerical data to establish or reject theories on causes and effects.

Based on quantitative research, I explored a Human Rights journal article (Pearl,

2019) that focused on police violence, particularly against persons of color. More than 215

people, largely black, were killed by security agents in Washington from 2005 to 2014, the

survey revealed. About 179 people have been killed by police in New York in the preceding

fifteen years. Especially after the 2014 deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, these

horrifying statistics demanded a shift in the security business. As a consequence, measures

such as the usage of body cameras and anti-discrimination training for staff were modified.

Then on qualitative research, I explored a journal article in Center for American

Progress report regarding the safety of New York City and its neighborhoods (Pearl, 2019).

The findings of the survey reveal low levels of public confidence in law enforcement.

Because law enforcement officials often used excessive force, this occurred. As a

consequence, even in crises, a significant portion of residents no longer call the cops. In

2016, the New York City Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice established Neighborhood

initiative. The initiative's objective was to reduce violent crime in 15 municipal housing units.

The initiative blamed a lack of investment in the city's infrastructure and bad living

conditions for the city's security issue. Following this understanding, efforts were made to

enhance the infrastructure and quality of life of the city's inhabitants. Therefore, the city

council created better roads, housing, and lighting. This caused a significant decrease in

crime around the city. This strategy may be beneficial for Detroit, Michigan, and other cities

with similar crime concerns.
