SOLUTION PRINCIPLES
Remote Radio Equipment Infrastructure & Site Configurations

1 Solution Overview & Design Principles

1.1 Capacity & Technology

The equipment detailed within is an example of the adaptability of ICD’s remote radio unit infrastructure solution.
The general concept is to deploy 1 x SM fibre trunk cable + 1 x DC trunk cable to each sector (3UK) or 1 x SM + 1 x MM fibre trunk cable +
1 x DC trunk cable per sector (EE). These combinations could be streamlined to cater for both operators in one solution, however there are
pro’s and con’s for both scenarios which would require further discussion and agreement from all shareholders before pursuing any
combined solution.
The ICD solution allows tailoring of multiple scenarios whilst utilising a common range of products.

1.2 Radio Equipment Configuration & Supporting 3UK Infrastructure

All equipment configuration designs are carefully assessed and supported with interactive cable calculators to ensure the correct
dimensioning of DC cable conductor is always applied.
It is intended that standard site design provisions for 4 x RRU & 1 x parallel connected or 2 x single circuit connected AAU’s employing ‘A’,
‘B’ or ‘B Plus’ equipment configurations.
Cable calculators are included for reference in section 6 of this document which have been generated based upon the documented max
equipment loading and minimum operating voltage values set out below:
2 x 520watts min 42 volts single technology RRU pairs 1 & 2
2 x 822watts min 45 volts dual technology RRU pairs 3 & 4
Either 1 x 1220watts min 48 volts active antenna (AAU) pairs 5 & 6 with parallel circuit connection
Or 2 x 1220watts min 42 volts active antenna (AAU) pairs 5 & 6 with single circuit connection
Radio equipment locations are categorised and catered for with three key configurations of equipment which are supported by
corresponding ICD infrastructure equipment kits:
‘A’ AAU Remote – All RRU Remote
‘B’ AAU Remote – All RRU Local
‘B Plus’ AAU Remote – RRU Split Local & Remote – Numbers Configurable
Local and remote break out boxes are available in two variants to cater for full remote sector equipment deployment and partial remote
sector equipment deployment.
Local bulk sector supply cables and multi core trunk cables are supplied to ordered lengths in pre-defined increments.

SOLUTION PRINCIPLES
Remote Radio Equipment Infrastructure & Site Configurations

DC Trunk cables are available in two constructions (2 pair & 6 pair) to cater for full remote sector equipment deployment and partial remote
sector equipment deployment.
Fibre Trunk cables are available in two constructions (6 pair & 12 pair) to cater for full remote sector equipment deployment and partial
remote sector equipment deployment. These are manufactured and pre-terminated to ordered lengths in pre-defined increments, any
overlength is contained with the spooling frame supplied with the fibre BoB’s.
The fibre breakout length is the same at both ends of the trunk cable facilitating universal installation - pull up or lower down the structure /
building.
DC jumper cables, remote BoB to RRU / AAU are supplied pre-terminated one end with a plug & play connector and are available in pre-
defined increments. Removing the need for trained electricians to climb, post installation.
Fibre jumper cables, remote BoB to RRU / AAU are supplied pre-terminated both ends and are available in pre-defined increments.

The permissible radio equipment locations are catered for utilising the appropriate configuration of the below infrastructure building blocks:
