Question 1
Emotions in the Workplace.
Emotions have profound effect on almost everything we do in the workplace. This is a strong
statement and one that you would rarely find a decade ago in behavioral science research. Until
recently behavioral science experts assumed that a person’s thoughts and actions are governed
primarily by conscious reasoning (called cognition).
Yet, groundbreaking neuroscience discoveries have revealed that our perceptions, attitudes,
decisions and behavior are influenced by both cognition and emotion. In fact, emotions may have
greater influence because emotional processes often occur before conscious cognitive process
and consequently, influence the latter. By ignoring emotionality, many theories have overlooked
a large piece of puzzle about human behavior in the workplace.
