ART APPRECIATION

Painting

Art Work: Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring is one of the most iconic paintings in the world.
Nicknamed the “Mona Lisa of the North” you could argue that it is beginning to rival the Mona
Lisa in terms of exposure. We’ve been asked to paint copies of this famous painting in its
original dimensions (44 cm x 39 cm) and also much bigger, as of course everything is custom
made to your specifications.  If you would like to commission a reproduction oil painting of
Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring
Artist: Johannes Vermeer (/vərˈmɪər, vərˈmɛər/ vər-MEER, vər-MAIR, Dutch: [vərˈmeːr], see
below; also known as Jan Vermeer; October 1632 – 15 December 1675) was a Dutch Baroque
Period[3] painter who specialized in domestic interior scenes of middle-class life. During his
lifetime, he was a moderately successful provincial genre painter, recognized in Delft and The
Hague. Nonetheless, he produced relatively few paintings and evidently was not wealthy,
leaving his wife and children in debt at his death.
Sculpture

Art work: Moses (Italian: Mosè [moˈzɛ]; c. 1513–1515) is a sculpture by the Italian High

Renaissance artist Michelangelo, housed in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome.
[2]
Commissioned in 1505 by Pope Julius II for his tomb, it depicts the biblical figure Moses with horns
on his head, based on a description in chapter 34 of Exodus in the Vulgate, the Latin translation of
the Bible used at that time.

Artist: Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (Italian: [mikeˈlandʒelo di lodoˈviːko ˌbwɔnarˈrɔːti

siˈmoːni]; 6 March 1475 – 18 February 1564), known as Michelangelo (English: /ˌmaɪkəlˈændʒəloʊ,
ˌmɪk-/[1]), was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect,[2] and poet of the High Renaissance. Born in
the Republic of Florence, his work was inspired by models from classical antiquity and had a lasting
influence on Western art. Michelangelo's creative abilities and mastery in a range of artistic arenas
define him as an archetypal Renaissance man, along with his rival and elder contemporary,
Leonardo da Vinci.[3] Given the sheer volume of surviving correspondence, sketches, and
reminiscences, Michelangelo is one of the best-documented artists of the 16th century. He was
lauded by contemporary biographers as the most accomplished artist of his era.
Architecture

Art work: As part of this year’s Interni Legacy event at the Università Statale in Milan, in conjunction with
Milan Design Week, Sergei Tschoban and Sergey Kuznetsov, partners of the Moscow based architecture
studio SPEECH Tchoban & Kuznetsov, have designed a high-tech sculpture titled The Architect’s Eye. A
stainless steel sphere, completely smooth and reflecting, features an LED system to create the image of a
huge human eyeball that rotates to look to the sky as well as at visitors and the ground. The iris changes color
and the pupil increases and decreases in size. Very cool.

Dance

Peter Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” is perhaps the most loved and most enthralling of all classical ballets. More
than a century after its birth in 1875, ballet companies are still performing it regularly all over the world.
Music

In the above round, part 2 repeats the exact melody sung by part 1 without any changes.
However, in many pieces of music, the melody is not exactly repeated – it is often changed
through transposition or inversion.
