Assignment Brief:
Analysis on a company in Malaysia through Market Structures

Objective:
The primary objective of this assignment is to make sure the students understand about the four major types
of market structures in an economy. Students are asked to identify the type/types of market structures that a
company has applied based on its characteristics such as number of sellers, types of products, entry
condition, control over price and etc.

Assignment Task:
1. Choose a company in Malaysia.
2. Find out the type/types of market structures that company has applied.
3. Do analysis based on the elements below:
 Economy problems that the company faces.
 Demand and supply of the company’s products.
 Elasticity of demand and supply of the company’s products.
 Relationships with other companies either partners or competitors.
 Company’s short run and long run plans.
4. Give your opinions to improve the company’s performance.

Your report should include:


1. Title Page

3. Introduction – Company’s background, mission, vision, etc.
4. Body – Type/Types of market structures, Analysis, Comments.
5. Conclusion
Notes for Students:
The report should be:
 Approximately 1500 words in length excluding contents, bibliography, list of illustrations (if used)
and appendices (if used). The word count is permitted to be +/- 10% of the 1500 words (1250-1750
words).
 You must write in the third person.
Write concisely as you will not score points for irrelevant, padded overlong submissions. Quality, not
quantity is the aim. Use the marking scheme as a guide for structure.

Important:
You must submit an electronic copy via email and Turnitin on or before the dateline date.
Breadth of reading is expected so cite several credible sources. Use academic books and journals as sources
to underpin the arguments you wish to make. All sources must be clearly referenced in the text (using the
Harvard reference system) or you risk being penalized for plagiarism.
Pages must be numbered with use of a cover, contents page, and a bibliography. The report must be
presented in a professional business format/style making effective use of diagrams and charts – either your
own or properly referenced – in communicating key elements and concepts. Format details are as follows:
 Font: Arial/Tahoma 11 pt. Keep the same font throughout.
 Line spacing: 1.5 lines
