4 A’s Lesson Plan in Math 2

I. Objective
At the end of a 60-minute discussion, 75% of the grade 2 pupils will be able to identify
plane figures.

II. Subject Matter: Plane Figures

Reference: My Distance Learning Buddy (A modular textbook for the 21st century
learner) Mathematics 2
wp.p 197-203

Concept: There 6 common plane figures: circles, half circles, quarter circles, triangles,
squares, and rectangles.
 A triangle has 3 sides and 3 corners.
 A square has 4 sides and 4 corners.
 A rectangle has 4 sides and 4 corners.
 A circle has no sides.
 A half-circle is 1/2 of a circle.
 A quarter circle is 1/4 of a circle.

Value Focus: Importance of cleanliness

III. Materials
Visual Aids, pictures, word strips

IV. Procedures:

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Drill

Good morning, grade 2. Good morning, teacher.

I have here some flashcards. What I want you to do is

to read the following words shown. Is that clear? Yes, teacher.

Well done, grade 2. Class, are you familiar with the

“Amazing Clap?” (pupils gave varied answers of a yes and no)

The “Amazing Clap” goes like this:

(the teacher starts to demonstrate Amazing Clap in
font of the pupils). (pupils are watching and listening)

Now, can you do it with me? Yes, teacher.

Since you have answered the activity correctly, let’s

give ourselves an “Amazing Clap.” Ready? Yes, teacher.

(starts doing the amazing clap with pupils) (starts doing the amazing clap with teacher)

B. Motivation

Okay class, who wants to see a robot? Me, teacher!

Wow! It seems like most/all of you wants to see a

robot. Now, we have here Mr. Ren the robot.

(Mr. Ren the robot appears and went in front.)

Hello, grade 2, I am Mr. Ren the robot. Do you want
to sing and dance with me? Yes, Mr. Ren

I will sing the song and dance first, okay? Okay/Yes, Mr. Ren

(sings the song while dancing.) (pupils actively watching and listening)

Now, let’s sing and dance altogether. (the pupils starts singing and dancing)

Well done, grade 2.

Presentation

Did you enjoy singing and dancing with Mr.Ren the

robot?
Yes, teacher.

What have you noticed with Mr. Ren the robot? He is filled with shapes.

Very good!

What shapes are present in Mr. Ren the Robot’s

costume? Circle, triangle, square, and rectangle.

Very good, grade 2!

Can you guess what would be our lesson for today? Plane figures.

Very good. Our lesson for today is all about plane

figures.

1. Activity

Now class, we will have a game. I will divide the

class into four groups.I have here four envelopes.
Each envelope contains a shape and different objects.
What I want you to do is to paste the objects on the
other column that looks similar with the shape that
your group has. But before that, here are the
guidelines or rules to be followed. Let’s read it all
together.
Guidelines in doing group activity: Guidelines in doing group activity:
1. Read and follow the instructions carefully. 1. Read and follow the instructions carefully.
2. Work with your group. 2. Work with your group.
3. Work silently. 3. Work silently.

I will give you five minutes to work on this activity.

The first one to finish will get a prize later. Is that
clear? Yes, teacher.

Okay class, you may now begin. (the class starts doing their group work)

2. Analysis

Now, let’s check the work of group 1.

Based on the answers of group 1, what do you think is

the shape indicated in their work? Triangle.

Very good! It is triangle.

How many sides does a triangle have? Three sides.

How about corners? Three.

Very good, grade 2.

Okay, everybody please read.

A triangle is a plane figure that has three sides and

three corners. A triangle is a plane figure that has three sides and
three corners.

Let’s take a look at the answers of group 1.

Is the signage triangle? Yes, teacher.

Is the ruler triangle? Yes, teacher.

Is the mountain triangle? Yes, teacher.

Very good! Let’s give the group 1 an “Amazing Clap”

(teacher does the amazing clap with students) (pupils starts doing the amazing clap with teacher)

Now, let’s check the work of group 2.

If the group 1 is triangle, what about the group two? Rectangle.

What shape is indicated in their answers?

Very good! It’s a rectangle.

How many sides and corners does a rectangle have? Four sides and corners.

Very good!

Okay, everybody please read.

A rectangle is a plane figure that has four sides and

four corners. A rectangle is a plane figure that has four sides and
four corners.

Let’s take a look at the answers of group 2.

Does the envelope look like a rectangle? Yes, teacher.

Does the blackboard look like a rectangle? Yes, teacher.

Very good!

Let’s give group 2 an “Amazing Clap.”

(teacher does the amazing clap with students) (pupils starts doing the amazing clap with teacher)

Let’s proceed to the group 3.

What have you noticed with their answers? They all

look like a? A square.
Very good!

How many sides does a square have? 4 sides.

How about corners? 4 corners.

Very good. Both square and rectangle have four sides,

right? Yes, teacher.

Now, is there any difference between the two plane

figures? Yes, teacher.

What do you think is the difference of rectangle from

square? The rectangle has two short sides and two long sides.
The square is shorter than the square.
The square have four equal sides.
Etc.

Very good, grade 2!

Let’s take a look the answers of group 3.

Is the puzzle a square? Yes, teacher.

How about the biscuit? Is it square? Yes, teacher.

Is the waffle a square? Yes, teacher.

Very good, grade 2. Now, let’s give the group 2 an

“Amazing Clap.”

(teacher does the amazing clap with students) (pupils starts doing the amazing clap with teacher)

Let’s proceed to the last group.

Can you tell what shape does their answers look like? It looks like a circle.

Very good.

Does a circle have corners and side? No, teacher.

Very good.

Let’s this altogether.

A circle is a plane figure that has no sides and no A circle is a plane figure that has no sides and no
corners. corners.

Class, did you know that are still other two plane
figures? (pupils gave varied answers of a yes or no)

Yes, class. There are two other plane figures that

looks very similar to the circle. Do you know why? Why, teacher?

Because these two plane figures are also part of a

circle. They are called half- circle and a quarter circle.

Okay class, please read.

The half-circle is the half of a circle. The half-circle is the half of a circle.

Example:

Can you give other objects that looks like a half

circle? Half of the pizza, protractor, arc, etc.

Very good, grade 2!

The last one is the quarter circle.

Class, please read.

Quarter circle is 1/4 of a circle. Quarter circle is 1/4 of a circle.

Example:
Now class, these shapes; the triangle, rectangle,
square, circle, half-circle, and the quarter circle are
also called as the plane figures.

Again, these shapes are also called as? Plane figures.

Very good, grade 2!

3. Abstraction

So class, what have we talk about earlier? Teacher, we talked about plane figures

(opens the covered part which contains the title of the

topic)

Very good!

How many plane figures are there? There are six plane figures.

Can you name all of them? Yes, teacher.

What are those? Circles, half-circles, quarter circles, triangles, squares,
and rectangles.

(opens the covered parts)

Very good!

Okay class, how many sides and corners does a

triangle have? A triangle has 3 sides and 3 corners.

(opens one covered part)

Very good!
How about rectangle? How many sides and corners
does a rectangle have? A rectangle has 4 sides and 4 corners.

(opens another part)

Very good, grade 2.

How about the square? How many sides and corners

does a square have? A square has 4 sides and 4 corners.

(opens another part)

Very good.

What about the circle? Does it have sides and

corners? No/A circle has no sides and no corners.

(opens another part)

Very good.

Can you tell me what half-circle is? A half -circle is the one half of a circle.

(opens another part)

Very good.

How about quarter circle? It is the? A quarter circle is the 1/4 of the circle.

(opens the last part)

Very good, grade 2. It seems like you listened very

well.
4. Application

Now class, I have here the queen of snow. Her name

is Elsa.

Hi, queen/Elsa!

Yes, teacher.

Can you say “hi” to her?

Elsa lives in a castle. Right?

Yes, teacher!
Queen Elsa lives in a huge castle which means she
also have a very big bedroom! She also have a lot of
toys to play with. After Elsa and her sister, Anna
played, her bedroom became very messy. Now, Elsa
wants your help to clean her room. Yes, teacher!

Class, do you want to help Elsa? (pupils raised their hands)

Now, to help her clean her room, you need to match

or connect the objects that looks exactly a like with
the basket that has shape pasted on it. Is that clear?

Now, I want six volunteers to come here in front and

match the objects.

(the teacher chooses six pupils)

.

You did a great job, children, and because of that,

Princess Elsa wants to give a star to those who help
her clean her room.

(teacher gave stars)

5. Valuing

We should always remember to value cleanliness.

When we stay clean and keep our surroundings and
environment clean, we are less likely to get sick. We
can enjoy good health and save our mother earth, We
can achieve it by helping one another, just like we did
to clean Princess Elsa's room.

V. Evaluation

Now, keep all your things except for your pencils. Get
ready for a test.

(Teacher gave/distributed the test papers).

(Teacher read the direction/instruction).

Direction: Write the name of the plane figure

represented by each object on the line before each
number. ( is it clear class?)

1. Rectangle

_________1. .

2. Triangle
__________2.

__________3. 3. Circle

4. Square

__________4.
5. Half-circle

__________5.

VI. Assignment

Direction: Look for a picture if an object that

represents the given plane figure below in a magazine
or on the internet and cut it out then paste it inside the
box.

1. Triangle
