What have you discovered about her perspective?

Different sides of the world have different ways of confrontation. In a professional

setting, solving problems that occur within the field has a contrasting method in the western and
eastern parts of the world. The west has a direct way of confrontation wherein people can
straightforwardly tell the managers the problem and assign responsibility to anyone. Even
managers that are in a higher ranking in a company can be told by people below him/her what to
do. In the east, that does not happen. People in the east value hierarchy in a professional setting
telling managers the problem and what to do to solve it may come out as disrespectful. It is better
to just tell that there is an occurring problem than leave it as that so that the manager will be able
to come up with the solution by him/herself.
There is no right or wrong way of confronting people, it is just that culture has a huge
impact on it. In the end, adapting to a certain culture can be a great help instead of insisting the
other.

Do you believe that the Philippines can relate to the story?

The Philippines can relate to the eastern type of confrontation as we are also in Asia. Our
country values respect more than anything. It is seen on all companies and industries. Managers
are seen as people that should not be disrespected. They are the ones that should give orders to
his/her people on what to do. They are the ones that will think of the solution and hand it out for
the people to work out. Lower-ranking people cannot voice their opinion no matter what. They
will only do what they are told to do.
It is frustrating to say that this is still a culture that have been going on until now.
Potentials are limited to being quiet. Hopefully, a more open environment is practiced for people
to show their true capabilities.
