DENR Metropolitan Environmental Office–East (MEO-East) halts illegal tree cutting in Barangay Kamuning, Quezon City.
MEO-East, in response to an anonymous report made through the social media page of DENR National Capital Region,
sent a team to investigate.
The team found that two (2) fruit-bearing trees—Mango (𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘢 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢) and Star Apple (𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘺𝘴𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘮 𝘤𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰)—were
cut without a valid Tree Cutting/Pruning/Balling Permit from the DENR and a Barangay Certificate of No Objection.
Section 68 of Presidential Decree No. 705, s-1975, otherwise known as the “Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines”
prohibits the cutting, gathering, and/or collecting of timber or other wood products without a permit from the DENR. Anyone
found guilty of violating the same shall be, according to Executive Order No. 277, s. 1987, “punished with the penalties
imposed under Articles 309 and 310 of the Revised Penal Code”.
The team informed those responsible of their violation and advised them to refrain from further cutting the tree. They also
explained that the requirement for securing a Tree Cutting Permit applies to all trees, naturally growing or planted, on both
public and private lands.
MEO-East coordinated with officials of Barangay Kamuning in the conduct of site inspection and investigation.
