LISTENING COMPREHENSION TEST: SCRIPT
I) LISTEN AND CHOOSE A), B) OR C):
Hi I’m Peter and I’m from South Africa. I want to tell you about my last school trip: I went to a national park. First, we
got together at our school very early in the morning that day and then we got on a big bus to travel to the park. I
wanted to go by plane because it was a very long trip: six hours! but it was not possible because plane tickets cost a
lot of money. But, when we arrived, it was great because the place was very beautiful. We learnt about a lot of
different animals. My favourite one was the elephant. It was enormous. We also saw some lions and monkeys. We
didn’t see any zebras or tigers because they were sleeping inside a cave. At 5 o’clock we were all really hungry so
our teachers prepared some sandwiches and fifteen minutes later, at 5.15 pm, we had a picnic together. We ate
cheese and chicken sandwiches: my favourite! We drank a lot of juice because it was a very hot afternoon. After
that we went to a souvenir shop. There were lots of different objects there. I wanted to buy a camera or a suitcase
because my sister and I are going camping next week, but they were too expensive. Finally I bought a torch. It only
cost 5 pounds and we really needed one!
II) LISTEN AND FILL IN THE BLANKS:
Listen to the message Mandy sent to her friends to invite them to her birthday party.
Hi everyone! I have an important message for you. On Friday, September 13th it’s my birthday party and I want you
to be there with me. It’s in Hyde Park at half past three in the afternoon. Do you want me to spell the name of the
Park? That is H-Y-D-E. It’s amazing! It’s next to a famous football stadium . We can play and eat something together.
My mum wants to cook some sweet things: cookies with cream and chocolate cake. Mmmm delicious! She also
wants to buy some oranges so we can have orange juice, too. I love it! Please come to my party! Best. Mandy.
III) LISTEN AND MATCH:
Listen to a group of students talking about their favourite places.
Hi! I’m Jacob and I love doing sports. Three years ago I started this sport with my brothers. At first, it was just a
hobby and we went to the field to have fun but then we started to play matches at the weekends. One day, I want to
be as famous as Messi or Ronaldo. It’s amazing!
My name is Alex and I really enjoy quiet activities. When I was growing up, my parents read a lot of books to me, and
I really enjoyed it. Inevitably, reading became my favourite activity. Usually, when I finish all the books I’ve got at
home, I like to go to this place and sit in silence to read.
Hello, I’m Rose and I’m a big fan of classical plays. I love acting and performing on stage. When I was a kid, my
parents told me I would be famous one day, because I have a lot of talent. I believe this is my favourite place - I love
the final applause when the play ends. It’s just amazing!
I’m Rob and I go to this place every day. It’s so important for your health to breathe fresh air and to walk along the
green grass. I like walking my dog there and I enjoy watching children playing and climbing trees. It reminds me of
the time when I was little.
My name is Lucy and I’m a coffeeholic. Yes! I’m “addicted” to coffee. I just love drinking it. So, naturally, I regularly
visit this place to enjoy a nice cup. I also like to have my coffee with a slice of a delicious cake. What I love the most
about this place is that it is a relaxing place where I can just sit and read a book while tasting a delicious drink.
IV) LISTEN AND WRITE TRUE OR FALSE:
Traditional English breakfast is a full breakfast that all English families love! They enjoy it a lot and all British people
have it every day. It is a complete meal that includes bacon, eggs, British sausage, tomato, mushrooms and toast.
These ingredients are sometimes different in some specific cities but British people think it’s the most important
meal of their day.
It is so big that people can enjoy this meal in the morning but also at any time of the day. Some prefer to have it at
lunchtime and others eat it in the afternoon, too.
In general, people have the traditional English breakfast with their family, with a group of friends or to celebrate a
special occasion together but other people love going to traditional British bars or restaurants and have their
breakfast alone. They usually read a newspaper or a book at the same time.
Of course, now, some families are very busy and don’t have the time to prepare this full meal every day before
they go to school or work. So they just have a cup of coffee and milk with toast and butter or cereal.
