Course Title: Introduction to Criminology and Psychology of Crime

Course Description:

This subject presents an overview of the study of criminology; theories that explain criminal behaviour; techniques to
determine the characteristics of criminals, victims, the inter relatedness of theory practice in the criminal justice system, current
issues and other related aspect on crime prevention, suppression and investigation.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

Knowledge:
1. Know the background, importance, purpose, nature and scope of Criminology and Psychology of Crime;
2. Define criminology, crime, criminal law, and other important concepts of modern crime investigation techniques;
3. Trace the development of criminology by discussing the theories of crime causation;
4. Recognize the contributions of the pioneers in the science of criminology as well as those who introduced the study of
crime causation;
5. Explain the different types of criminal acts that subsequently identified its root causes; and
6. Understand the Philippine Criminal Law and to know R.A 6506.

Skills:
1. Understand the concept, historical background and the principles of criminology as a science and art;
2. Know root causes of crime, its effects on the society, and how to prevent it,
3. Familiarize them with the scientific crime solving techniques and legal action to be taken and its application to prevent
crime;
4. Acquire knowledge on criminal jurisprudence as applied in the administration of criminal justice system in the
Philippines;
5. Rehabilitation of criminals, define and analyze crime;
6. Know the criminal law, the causation of crime and the behaviour of criminals; and
7. Acquire Knowledge on Law Enforcement Administration.
