EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Current situation

Uganda has a population of 45.85 million as of 2021 censors of which 70% are farmers and to be
particular;

In Uganda more than 50% of the households depend on livestock for their livelihood this has produced
an idea in my mind which will help in the good production of better livestock though the production of
urban livestock feeds that is to say;

Concentrates used to mix livestock feeds

Pellet for livestock and many others as innovations come in everyday.

This proposal is about production of concentrate and pellet.

PROJECT NAME: NEW-SCIENCE ANIMAL FEEDS COMPANY

New-science is the suggested name of the company and project. The New-science is correspondent to
the new innovations of raw materials that are used in the making of animal feeds that is to say new
farming innovations like black solider fly farming, Azolla farming and earthworm farming which in the
other sense called urban farming as well.

MISSION

TO BE THE MOST TRUSTED BRAND IN THE REGION PROVIDING THE MOST ORGANIC EFFECTIVE FEEDING
SOLUTIONS AND RELIABLE TECHNICAL SUPPORT WITH RELEVANCE FOR VALUE FOR MONEY TO OUR
CUSTOMERS.

VISION

TO OFFER THE MOST TRUSTED, RELIABLE, ORGANIC, CUSTOMIZED FEED SOLUTION IN THE REGION.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW-SCIENCE ANIMAL FEEDS COMPAMY

New-science animal feeds company is an organic processing company where by all the raw materials
used will be organic. We utilize the raw materials by mixing them together to produce animal’s feeds
that is to say animal concentrate and animal pellet.

These are the main produced to be produced in this company

1. Animal concentrate
2. Animal pellet
ANIMAL CONCENTRATE

In this sector we are going to produce animal concentrates of different types since animals differ in their
nature of feeding and their purpose if I must say.

We shall start with the production of the following types of concentrates.

Poultry concentrates.

This is going to be our main production due the demand and involvement of people in my country. You
find that most of the animal farmers are chicken, ducks, turkeys and other animals that fall in that
category of poultry.

This is give a very wide market for our product.

There are two types of concentrates to be produced by our company;

1. Broiler concentrate ( meat booster)

2. Layer concentrate (egg booster)
3. Pig and fish concentrate

Animal pellet

We are going to involve in this sector as it cuts across to before poultry and other animals like fish.

Here we are going to focus more on the production;

Fish pellet

Poultry pellet

Here are going to produce basically three types of pellet that is to say

Starter pellet

Grower pellet

Finisher pellet.

RAW MATERIALS

These are raw materials needed for the production of concentrate

In all our products we are going to use only organic raw materials but to be specific we have three main
materials that almost cut across our productions for a better result oriented productions.
These are the main raw materials that we shall base on then add some other raw materials as will be
stated below:

1. Black solider fly larva

2. Azolla
3. Earthworm

With these three raw materials to be obtained we shall need to dot there production hence each is a
farming of its own so the company to get these raw materials is obliged to do

Black solider fly farming

Azolla farming

Earthworm farming

BLACK SOLIDER FLY FARMING

Black Soldier Fly farming is presently the most widespread form of insect farming in the world. The Black
Soldier Fly is ideally suited for food production due to its rapid production cycle and high concentration
of protein.

The black soldier fly (BSF), is a valuable insect species whose larvae have enormous potentials for
converting organic waste into compost, while the larval biomass generated could also be harvested for
its protein and fatty acid content

The entire life cycle of the black soldier fly is approximately 38 days (Fig. 3). Larvae hatch from eggs,
transition through five larval instars, pupate and then emerge as adult flies (Hall and Gerhart, 2002).
When incorporating BSF into your composting process, you can harvest the compost in as little as 21
days.

The economic importances of the black soldier fly.

Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) have proven to convert organic waste into high-quality nutrients for pet
foods, fish and poultry feeds, as well as residue fertilizer for soil amendment.
BSF farming has got more economic benefits like egg selling, larva selling but in
our case we shall be majoring in recycling and value addition that is production of concentrate and
other productions.
This is going to be our main source of protein in our products hence good for animals.

AZOLLA FARMING
Azolla (Azolla sp.) is an aquatic fern consisting of a short, branched, floating stem, bearing roots which
hang down in the water. The leaves are alternately arranged, each consisting of thick aerial dorsal lobe
containing green chlorophyll and a slightly larger thin, colorless, floating ventral lobe.

Azolla has been used as “green manure” in several countries to fertilize rice paddies and to increase rice
yields (van Hove and Lejeune, 2002). Azolla–Anabaena is capable of fixing nitrogen at higher rates than
legumes and is able to growth successfully in waterlogged habitats having low level of nitrogen.

Azolla and its benefits?

Azolla has several pharmacological effects and can be used as antioxidant, immune-stimulating, hepato-
protective, phytoremediation, bioremediation and also as nutritious material. Azolla contains vitamins
(B12, beta carotene and vitamin A), biopolymers, minerals and amino acids.

Azolla is a small water fern that floats freely with a global distribution. It can be used as a raw material
thanks to its high content of proteins, fatty acids, amino acids and vitamins.

Azolla can double its leaf area in seven days if conditions of high nutrient levels and water temperatures
persist.

What is the effect of Azolla on the livestock?

Several studies showed that Azolla can be fed to animals like cow, buffalo, sheep, goat and rabbit
because it is easily digestible (because to its high protein and low lignin content), increases feed
efficiency, average daily gain of animals, and milk production by 15–20%.

Poultry and in particular ducks and chickens can be raised on a diet including fresh azolla. It has long
been recognized as a feed for wildfowl in the USA and for domesticated ducks in China and it has been
used as a feed to domestic fowl in Vietnam (Dao & Tran, 1966).
EARTHWORM FARMING

Worm farming, otherwise known as vermiculture (vermis from the Latin for worm) is the process of
harnessing earthworms to convert organic waste into the world's most nutrient-rich product

What is the process rearing of earthworms?

Vermiculture is the raising of earthworms for resale or use in vermicomposting systems, so the focus of
this practice is on ideal conditions for worm growth, reproduction, and health. Worm farmers usually
purchase and haul feedstock or pay for feedstock to be delivered to them.28 Sept 2021

Worms are ready to breed once they mature from 50 to 90 days. Earthworms are hermaphrodites; they
can be male or female (a great advantage!). They can perform both male and female functions and mate
every 7 to 10 days. The mating process takes around 24 hours.

What are the nutritional benefits of earthworms?

They're high in protein and have high levels of iron and of amino acids, which help break down food and
repair body tissue. They also contain copper, manganese and zinc. Earthworms are a source of calcium
as well — on a par with the amount in fresh cheese or cow's milk, says Dufour.

With this being the main raw materials we shall add in more raw materials for production of better
products.
These include:
1. Egg shells

Problems to be solved
New-science organic company is a problem solving company in a number of different ways list below.
 We have come to solve the use of lot chemicals that are used in making of both concentrates
and pellet feeds on the market of Uganda. This is our main aim as a company to bring an era of
chemical free animal feeds which is of good advantage to both the lives of the animals feeding
on them and the people that used animal products.
 Improve the health of both animals and people that consume the and there products. Due to
the organic composition of our products healthy issues like cancer and other diseases brought
about by chemical use.
 To provide cheap and affordable animal feeds for the people doing animal farming. Due to the
fact that most of the animal feeds are exported and some has chemicals in them which are
expensive it makes the animal feeds expensive for farmers due to the high import taxes and
composition price rate here we use simple products and no import taxes involved.
 To enhance the production of animal farming. Due to the good quality and effectiveness of our
products to the animals it helps in high yielding of the farmer doing animal farming.
 Provide jobs to the youth of Uganda that have no employment hence enhancing their livelihood.
 Provide animal products to people that do farming far from the capital city that is to say farmers
in remote areas. This is going to be possible due to our marketing structure of root marketing
which will reach to all places that have farmers all over east Africa.
