DAILY LESSON Teacher Carlo Rodeo Learning Area Mathematics 9

PLAN Teaching Dates and
June 1, 2023 Quarter Third
Time
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of parallelograms and triangle
similarity.
B. Performance Standards The learner is able to investigate, analyze, and solve problems involving parallelograms and
triangle similarity through appropriate and accurate representation.
C. Learning Competencies/ Objectives At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
a. identify similar polygons;
b. illustrate the similarity of polygons; and
c. give the importance of similarity of polygons in real-life situation.
II. CONTENT Similarity of Polygons
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide Pages
2. Learner’s Materials Pages
3. Textbook pages
4. Additional Materials from
Learning Resource (LR) Portal
B. Other Learning Resources
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or How do we define proportion?
presenting the new lesson What is the formula on how to find the proportion?
How can solve problems involving proportion?
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Activity: The teacher will present different ancient and modern architectural design. The students
will identify the similar polygons or shapes in each picture.

1) The Great Pyramid of Giza

Trivia: The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and most overwhelming of the Seven wonders of
the World. The Great Pyramids is an architecture marvel of ancient architecture in both aspects
of design and construction.

2) Taj Mah

Trivia: Taj Mahal is one of the most beautiful buildings with a romantic history. It was built to
honor Mumtaz Mahal, the favorite wife of Emperor Shah Jahan.

3) The City of Petra

Trivia: The City of Petra stands as a cultural phenomenon today because of its stunning
craftsmanship and many stories buried in its caves. It is believed to be established in 312 BC,
making it one of the world’s oldest cities.

4) Space Asia Hub

Trivia: Modern Architectural Design designed by the Singapore-based firm WOHA, the Space
Asia Hub was built within and around two former homes. These villas stand in stark contrast to
WOHA's ultramodern, all-glass cubelike structure that's connected to it.

5) The Big Shrink

Trivia: The Big Shrink house in North Carolina is modern architectural design converted ranch
house with a triangular prism shape. It’s configured so that the area of the home is smaller while
the interior offers plenty of space to live.

6) Black Box II

Trivia: A residence in Montreal, known as Black Box II, has a design with many rectangular
shapes. There are square-shaped openings in the kitchen, bedroom, and dining room that lead
out to the yard.

C. Presenting examples / instance of What have you observed on the different ancient and modern architectural design?
the new lesson How can we define polygons?
What are your observations on the different polygons from the pictures?
How can we define similar polygons based on the activity?
D. Discussing new concept and Similar polygons are two polygons with the same shape but not in size. The corresponding
practicing new skills #1 angles are congruent and the corresponding sides are proportional.

Example 1: Are these polygons similar?

Therefore ABC DEF. Since these polygons are similar, meaning to say:

∠A ≅ ∠D
∠B ≅ ∠E
∠C ≅ ∠F

Then,
AB BC CA
= =
DE EF FD

Example 2: From this example, ABCD ~ EFGH. Who can lists down all the congruent angles if
the measurements of the angles are ∠A = 95°, ∠B = 85°, ∠C = 100°, ∠D = 80°, ∠E = 95°, ∠F
= 85°, ∠G = 100° and ∠H = 80°? How about the proportionality of the corresponding sides?

Example 3: The given polygons from this picture are similar. What will be the value of x to prove
that these are similar?

E. Discussing new concept and The class will be grouped into four to perform different act. They will be given 3 minutes to
practicing new skills #2 prepare. Afterwards, they will present their work in front of the class.

Act 1 – Perform a short exercise showing similar polygons either in your formation or body
position.

Act 2 – Draw your school canteen or any building you prefer using similar polygons.

Act 3 – State what you have learned through word/phrase form using the acronym SIMILAR.

Act 4 – Apply any tune of music using this statement you have learned from our discussion.
(Two polygons are similar if they have the same shape but not in size. The corresponding angles
are congruent and the corresponding sides are proportional.)
F. Developing mastery Group Activity: Each group will be given problems regarding similarity of polygons.

1. Prove that ABCD ~ HIJK. Identify the congruent angles and proportionality of corresponding
sides.
2. The shaded polygons are equilateral triangles. Based on its measurement of sides, do we
identify it as similar polygons? Why?

3. If ABCD ~ EFGH, illustrate the value of ∠D and ∠G if the measurement of ∠A = 92°,

∠B = 85°, ∠C = 102° and ∠E = 92°?

G. Finding practical application of From the discussion, they have identified the used of similar polygons in architectural design
concepts and skills in daily living during ancient and modern period. What do you think is the importance of knowing similar
polygons in architectural design during ancient period? How about its importance to modern
period?
H. Making generalizations and How do we identify if two polygons are similar?
abstractions about the lesson
I. Evaluating learning Read and answer all the given statements using the similar polygons on the different ancient and
modern architectural design.

1. Prove that ABCD ~ QRST. Identify the congruent angles and proportionality of corresponding
sides.

2. The shaded polygons are

square. Based on its
measurement of sides, do
we identify it as similar
polygons? Why?
3. If CARE ~ BOND, illustrate the value of x, y and z?

J. Additional activities for application or Identify the corresponding congruent angles and proportional corresponding sides of the similar
remediation polygons given below.
