Guidelines for Practitioners Forum Reflective Reports

Introduction
The Practitioners Forum is a compulsory course for all students taking the Bachelor of Science (BSc
Hons) programme at all the four levels. The course which is delivered in six sessions of presentations
and interactions in a semester is assessed using a reflective report.

The Reflective Report

The reflective report is to integrate the professional experience encountered over the six sessions
of presentations under a unified theme of the course. The report is the medium in which the student
examines his or her experiences during the course. The student writes about these experiences,
exploring how he or she has changed, developed or grown from those experiences.
Specifically, the reflective report must be written to include the following:

• The Professional Experience that is encountered in the course: what did the student think
was positive or negative about the experience? What ideas from the sessions were relevant
to the student’s experience?

• The students’ own personal response and values: how else did the student interpret the
situation?
Did it challenge, affirm or change the student’s understanding?

• What the student chooses to share and what is a professional response: what did the student
learn? What else could the student have done? How will the new knowledge influence the
student’s future work?

The reflective report should have the following elements: a report cover, introduction, body and
conclusion. The introduction should be more direct in explaining what aspect of his or her
experiences that the student wants to talk about.
The body of the report should explain how the student has changed or what he or she has learned.
It should also explain what things caused the student to change, giving supporting details. For
example, if a student discusses becoming more optimistic about his or her professional experiences,
then examples should be given of what made this change, such as sharing an incident in which the
student took a positive approach or applied the knowledge acquired during the course.
The conclusion should sum up how the student have been affected and the effect of the changes.
The student may compare the past and future experiences of the course and emphasize the
difference. Download the report cover from the system and fill in the details as the cover page for
your report.
