Project Assistant (part time)

Candidates should be able to travel in North Kayin State, a mixed controlled area.

Background

The LIFT-funded project “Improving the incomes and nutrition outcomes of rural poor in Northern Kayin
State“ targets over 5,000 smallholder farmer households with commercial potential in Thandaunggyi
township in Kayin State. As part of a consortium, SNV Netherlands Development Organization supports
the rural poor to improve their position in the cardamom and turmeric value chains to access markets,
credit and other inputs. SNV is looking for a part-time Project Assistant to support the value chain
advisor in Taungoo.

Objectives

Since 2016 the SNV team supports smallholder farmers and traders in Thandaunggyi Township to improve
their position in cardamom and turmeric value chains. SNV is looking for a project assistant who can
support the team in achieving SNV’s project objectives, which are:

1. Quality of cardamom and turmeric production in Northern Kayin improved due to better post-
harvest management
2. Product bulking facilitated among cardamom and turmeric producers
3. Market development achieved through establishing new business linkages
4. The Multi-Stakeholder Platform for cardamom and turmeric strengthened and empowered as a
voice for relevant stakeholders

To reach the objectives, the project assistant will work in close collaboration with the value chain advisor
in the project office in Taungoo, led by the project manager of SNV who is based in Yangon.

Activities

The project assistant’s responsibilities will consist of, but not be limited to:

1. Arrange logistics for project activities such as trainings, including sending invitations, arranging
venues, arranging training material, keep participants’ lists, contributing to reports;
2. Mobilize farmer communities to participate in project activities and engage other stakeholders
where needed;
3. Contribute to financial management of the project by managing cash advances and payments;
4. Keep records and contribute to performance tracking in collaboration with the M&E team of the
project consortium;
5. Collaborate closely with the value chain advisor and others to make sure that activities run
smoothly.

Requirements:
1. Minimum Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent);
2. Minimum two years experience in logistics work;
3. Experience in mobilizing (farmer) communities for project activities;
4. Knowledge of and experience in agriculture activities is an asset;
5. Willing to regularly travel to the project site in Thandaunggyi Township;
6. Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and with local communities;
7. Fluent in Burmese and ability to write and speak in English;
8. Working experience in Kayin State is an asset;
9. The candidate should be able to travel in Northern Kayin State, a mixed controlled area.

Additional Information

Duration: 8 months between October 2019 – June 2020, approximately 10 working days per
month on a consultancy basis
Duty Station: Taungoo, with frequent travel to villages in Northern Kayin State
Start Date: 23 September 2019
Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience
