LABORATORY WORK NO. 1

GEOMETRIC COMMANDS

OBJECTIVE: To learn the basic command in creating shapes in the AutoCAD setting.

REFERENCE: Kyles, Shannon R. (2008). AutoCAD Workbook for Architects and Engineers. Ontario, Canada:
2008 Blackwell Publishing.

INSTRUCTIONS:

LINE COMMAND: To draw a line, line command is used. Line command can be given by following ways.
1. Absolute coordinate method:
a. “line” or “L” <enter> / click on the line command
b. “#” (value of x) “,” (value of y)
c. <enter>

2. Relative coordinate method:

a. “line” or “L” <enter> / click on the line command
b. “@” (value of x) “,” (value of y)
c. <enter>

3. Polar coordinate method:

a. “line” or “L” <enter> / click on the line command
b. “@” (distance) “<” (angle of inclination with reference to the horizontal)
c. <enter>

CIRCLE COMMAND:
1. Center-Radius method:
a. “circle” or “C” <enter> / click on the circle command
b. determines the center of the circle <click> / input coordinate
c. (radius) <enter>

2. Center-Diameter method:
a. “circle” or “C” <enter> / click on the circle command
b. determines the center of the circle <click> / input coordinate
c. “D” <enter>
d. (diameter) <enter>

3. Three-point method:
a. “circle” or “C” <enter> / click on the circle command
b. “3P” <enter>
c. determine the three points that will be passed by the circle.

4. Two-point method:
a. “circle” or “C” <enter> / click on the circle command
b. “2P” <enter>
c. determine the two points that will be passed by the circle.

5. Tangent-Tangent-Radius method:
a. “circle” or “C” <enter> / click on the circle command
b. “TTR” <enter>
c. determine the two lines tangent to the required circle
d. (radius) <enter>

3|P age
ARC COMMAND:
1. Three-point Method A
a. “ARC” <enter> / click polygon command
b. <click on the arc’s starting point>
c. <click on the arc’s center point>
d. (radius of the arc) <enter>

2. Three-point Method B
a. “ARC” <enter> / click polygon command
b. <click on the arc’s starting point>
c. “E” <enter>
d. <click on the arc’s ending point>
e. (radius of the arc) <enter>

3. Center of the Arc

a. “ARC” <enter> / click polygon command
b. “C” <enter>
c. <click on the arc’s starting point point> / (arc’s radius)
d. “A” <enter>
e. (arc’s angle of rotation with reference to the horizontal)
f. <enter>

POLYGON COMMAND: Polygon command is used to draw regular polygon shapes. Although one can draw
polygon also with line command but it takes more time polygon command draws polygon
faster with high accuracy
a. “polygon” or “POL” <enter> / click polygon command
b. (number of sides) <enter>
c. click on the center of the polygon <click> / input coordinate
d. choose if the polygon is INSCRIBED “I” or CIRCUMSCRIBED “C”
e. (radius of the circle) <enter>

POLYLINE COMMAND: polyline is a single-drawing entity that includes line and curve sections that may vary
in thickness, and may be edited using PEDIT (polyline edit) for the Spline and Fit curve
options to create contour lines or airfoils.
*command is the same with LINE commands

DONUT COMMAND: Donut or dough nut command enables us to draw filled rings and solid circle required
data’s are
a. “DONUT” <enter> / click donut command
b. (inside diameter) <enter>
c. (outside diameter) <enter>
d. click on the center of the donut

EXERCISE: Draw the following:
