Lindsay Ball Hockey League Rules 2023

● The icing line will be the red line


● “Floating Blue Line” is when the ball crosses the blue line, the attacking team is
onside, they then have the entire zone up to the centerline with which to work the ball
around and still be considered onside. Once the ball crosses the center red line the
attacking team's players must clear the defending team's blue line and have the ball
enter past the blue line to be considered onside again.
● There are three 16 minute periods of straight time.
● The clock stops with less than a minute remaining in each period no matter what the
score is.
● If the game is within two goals, or tied, the clock will stop within two minutes left of the
game, whenever there is a whistle
● If there is a tie after regulation, in the regular season, a single elimination shootout will
occur. This repeats until there is a winner.
● Slap shots are allowed.
● All that is required is a hockey helmet, gloves and stick.
● No other players are allowed to play, other than the ones that are on the beginning
roster.
● There are no replacement players for injured or players who may quit.
● There are no refunds for any reason whatsoever.
● You are allowed to borrow players from another team in the league to make a roster of
8 players. If there are 8 players for one team, no one can join that team.
● If you throw a punch, swing a stick, or are involved in a physical or verbal altercation
of any kind, you will no longer be permitted to play in the league.
● If you are thrown out of a game for any reason, you will be suspended for at least the
next game. A decision will be made about the length of absence by the captains and
convenor, and will be communicated to the player.
● This league was created for fun, if you do not respect the rules in any way, you will not
be asked to play again.
● Minor penalties will be 3 minutes long and straight time.
● Regular icing rule is in effect.
● If a team needs a goalie, they may ask the 3 other teams to borrow theirs for the night
(regular season). In the playoffs, the team without a goalie has to put one of their
players in net.
● Standing on the ball intentionally to kill time will result in a delay of game penalty; you
can only make a move with your foot with the ball.
● If the ball is hit with a stick above the shoulders, that player will get a penalty for high
sticking.
● There will be a delay of game penalty for the defensive team if they shoot it over the
glass, hit the lights, hit the ceiling, hit the speaker etc.,within their own blue line.
● A tie in the standings at the end of the regular season will firstly be decided by ROW
(regulation/overtime wins), if it is still tied it will then be decided by the season series

Referees:
● Each team has to provide a ref each week to ref they game that they are not playing.
● If your team can’t provide a ref, that team’s captain will serve a 3-minute minor penalty
at the start of their next game. If a team can’t supply a referee for a second time, the
next penalty will be a 5 minute major at the start of the game and the player has to
serve the penalty the whole time even if there is a power play goal. If the team can’t
supply a ref for a third time, that team will start down 1-0 on the scoreboard as well as
a 5-minute penalty.

Playoffs:
● First round of playoffs will be 1st place v.s. 4th place and 2nd place v.s. 3rd in a best 2 out
of 3 series.
● One 1-minute time out per team, per game.
● In the Championship series, it will be a best out of 3 series.
● If there is a tie at the end of regulation in the first round, we will have 3 on 3 overtime
until there is a game winning goal.
● If there is a tie at the end of regulation in the finals, we will have 5 on 5 overtime until
there is a game winning goal.
