Prerequisites for Mixed Mode

Requirements of the On-Site Client

— The client is configured for connecting to the node.

— Terminal-emulation software (for example, Windows HyperTerminal)

— FTP client

— Server software

— Correct CV or backup, if applicable.

— Access to Upgrade Packages for installation on the DUs or Baseband units.

— Pre-configured scripts, if applicable.

— A serial cable (RPM 919 732/05000) for connection between the client and
the DU or Baseband unit.

— For GSM DU Radio Node, the applicable version of OMT is installed on the
client.

3.2 Prerequisites for Mixed Mode Baseband

— It is possible that hardware and software configuration is required. In
addition, it is possible that additional hardware must be installed because
additional sectors or frequency bands are required, or for radio capacity
reasons. If necessary, install radio units, antennas, and antenna near units,
together with corresponding Baseband R units, and power units. Re-cabling
can be also necessary for mixed mode baseband in case of new RAT
addition, as supported number of RI ports can decrease depending on
baseband types.

For more information, see the following documentation:

— the Site Engineering folder in the CPI library

— the Installation folder in the CPI library

— Manage Hardware Equipment

— Radio Node Configurations

— CPRI Capacity Examples

— If additional hardware was installed, MOs representing the added hardware

must be created.

— It is possible that the Baseband unit must be replaced. For more information,
see Replace Baseband.

For Mixed Mode Baseband, do not install additional DUs or Baseband units.

configuration, but installing an additional Baseband unit or DU for additional

capacity requires creating a new Managed Element.

— The software running on the node must support the target configuration. If it
does not, it must be upgraded. For more information, see Radio Node
Configurations.

— Existing cell and TRX MOs (that is, MOs NRCellCU, NRSectorCarrier,
EUtranCellFDD, EutranCellTDD, NBIotCell, NodeBLocalCell, and Trx)
must be checked. If necessary, cells and TRXs must be removed to make the
remaining ones fit in the Baseband unit together with the cells and TRXs of
the new RAT. If the cells need to be replanned for running multiple RATs, the
cells and TRXs need to be reconfigured, see Reconfigure Cells and TRXs
Before Adding New RAT to a Mixed Mode Baseband Node on page 6.

— If radio units are to be shared between three standards, cells and TRXs of the
standards already running on radio units must be reconfigured.

— Allocation of RF branches must be planned to make sure the cells and TRXs
of the new RAT fit on the shared radio units.

3.3 Reconfigure Cells and TRXs Before Adding New RAT to

a Mixed Mode Baseband Node
Check existing cell and TRX MOs (NRCellCU, NRCellDU, EUtranCellFDD,
EutranCellTDD, NBIotCell, NodeBLocalCell and Trx) before adding a new
RAT to a Baseband Radio Node that already runs one or two RATs. If the cells
need to be replanned for running multiple RATs, the cells and TRXs need to be
reconfigured before adding a new RAT.

Steps

1. If necessary, remove the appropriate number of cells and TRXs to make the
remaining ones fit in the Baseband unit together with the cells and TRXs of
the new RAT.
For capacity in each standard combination and Baseband unit, see Radio
Node Configurations.

2. Reconfigure cells and TRXs of the standards already running on radio units
that will be shared between three standards.
To make sure the cells and TRXs of the new RAT will fit on these radio units,
the cells and TRXs need explicit mapping to RF branches. See Allocate RF
Ports for Mixed Mode with More than Two Standards on page 18.

4.3 Expand to Multi-DUs

In a WCDMA or LTE node, it is possible to add capacity by adding an extension
DU, that is, to have a multi-DU configuration. For instructions, see Replacing
Digital Units.

The synchronization is maintained by the IDL cable, which the two DUs use for
communication. The network synchronization settings are described in Mixed
Mode Radio, in the WCDMA and LTE RAN libraries.

4.4 Cascading Radio Units

One mixed mode radio and one single mode radio can be connected in a cascade
chain. This configuration allows one standard to use different frequencies, and

also to reduce equipment costs and simplify the antenna equipment setup. See
Mixed Mode Radio and Cascadable Radio Units in the LTE library for details.

Note: This is only applicable for two node configurations. With one radio node
(that is, a combination of Mixed Mode Radio and Mixed Mode
Baseband), it is possible to cascade up to six radio units where each
radio unit can be in single mode or mixed mode.

5.4 Allocate RF Ports for Mixed Mode with More than Two
Standards
Mixed Mode with more than two standards requires special attention and often
special configuration depending on the hardware capabilities of the radio. The
radio can have limitations about the number of the standards that are supported
on the same RF port and on the same band. Thus, it is necessary to make a total
planning for the RF branches covering all nodes to configure which standards are
used for a port. If the radio supports NR RAT, then NR RAT can be added on the
same RF port.

18 102/1553-LZA 701 6014/1 Uen AV13G | 2021-01-07

Adding a Standard to a Configuration

Note: There are limitations about the number of standards that can be
supported on the same RF port. For more information about limitations
per radio, see Radio Node Configurations.

Mixed Mode with more than two standards can be configured with one or two
nodes. If there are two nodes, at least one of them is a multistandard Baseband
Radio Node. If there is only one node, it is a multistandard Baseband Radio Node.

If a GSM DU node is included in the configuration, for that node the TRX to
antenna mapping is handled in the normal configuration using OMT and BSC. For
more information, see Configure GSM DU Node for Mixed Mode Radio on page
55.

If two radio nodes share the antenna and RfPort, only one of them must control
the TMA, the RET and the power of the RfPort. Do not configure more RATs than
supported by the radio to use the same RfBranch MO.

Prerequisites
The FieldReplaceableUnit MO and an appropriate number of RfBranch MO
instances are created.

Steps

In the multistandard Baseband Radio Node, do the following:

1. Lock all cells and TRXs for the FieldReplaceableUnit MO allocated to a

radio with triple standard mixed mode.

2. Set the value of attribute rfBranchTxRef under the appropriate MO so that

it refers to an RfBranch MO in such a way that only the wanted standards
refer to the same RfBranch MO.
— For GSM, attribute rfBranchTxRef is in the Trx MO.

— For WCDMA, attribute rfBranchTxRef is in the NodeBSectorCarrier

MO.

— For LTE, attribute rfBranchTxRef is in the SectorCarrier MO.

3. Choose the appropriate configuration for the appropriate step or steps.

7.2 Configure Mixed Mode using Baseband R503

Note: If MEs are already configured for the Mixed Mode Baseband feature, no
special handling during the upgrade is required.

The following steps have to be performed when configuring the node with Mixed
Mode Baseband R503 for the first time:

Steps

1. Connect Baseband R503 to one of the MEs. Leave the other ME

disconnected to the Baseband R503, or delete the link to it.

2. If the isSharedWithExternalMe attribute is not available, upgrade the node

to the version that supports this release (18.Q1 and onwards), see
description of parameters in Mixed Mode Baseband R503.

3. Set the isSharedWithExternalMe attribute under the MO representing the

Baseband R503 to TRUE.

4. Upgrade ME with the release that supports this feature (18.Q1 and
onwards).

9 Mixed Mode Radio with CDMA

An RBS running Mixed Mode Radio with CDMA is equipped differently than an
RBS running other access systems or standards. When configured with LTE, an
XMU 02 is used to combine baseband units of the two standards to be delivered
to an RUS, see Figure 12.

With the XMU 02, the CPRI links between the XMU 02 and the radio unit operate
in a shared CPRI configuration, where both standards share a single CPRI link to
the radio unit. For more information, see Integrating CDMA on RBS 6000 in the
CDMA RBS libraries.

Mixed Mode with CDMA uses GNSS with a splitter that delivers the GNSS signal
to the internal GNSS Receiver of the CDMA Baseband unit and the GNSS
Receiver unit connected to XMU 02. The DU or Baseband unit used by LTE and
XMU 02 receive GNSS signal and the system determines which reference to use.

10 Support for NR TDD and LTE TDD in Mixed

Mode Radio Configurations

TDD pattern consists of the following NR slots, and LTE subframes:

— Downlink (D)

— Uplink (U)

— Special (S)

The special slot pattern defines downlink, guard, and uplink symbols within
special slot or slots. Symbols are listed in the downlink:guard:uplink order.

In Mixed Mode Radio TDD configurations, only the use of identical TDD patterns
is allowed. Identical TDD patterns allow for the simultaneous transition from
uplink to downlink symbols and from downlink to uplink symbols. Non-identical
patterns can damage the hardware.

For more information on TDD patterns and special slot configurations in NR, see
Physical Layer Mid-Band in NR CPI library.

Note: Check the EUtranCellTDD.frameStartOffset and the

NRCellDU.tddLteCoexistence attributes to decide if TDD patterns are
identical between NR and LTE carriers.

Example 1 Identical Pattern

— Carrier 1 (NR)

• The NRCellDU.tddLteCoexistence attribute is set to true.

• The NRCellDU.tddUlDlPattern attribute is set to

TDD_ULDL_PATTERN_04 (DDDDDDDSUU).

• The NRCellDU.tddSpecialSlotPattern attribute is set to

TDD_SPECIAL_SLOT_PATTERN_03 (6:4:4).

— Carrier 2 (LTE)

• The EUtranCellTDD.frameStartOffset attribute is set to 2 ms.

• The EUtranCellTDD.subframeAssignment attribute is set to 2

(DSUDD).

• The EUtranCellTDD.specialSubframePatternattribute is set to 7

(10:2:2).

Example 2 Non-Identical Pattern

— Carrier 1 (NR)

• The NRCellDU.tddLteCoexistence attribute is set to true.

• The NRCellDU.tddUlDlPattern attribute is set to

TDD_ULDL_PATTERN_01 (DDDSUUDDDD).

• The NRCellDU.tddSpecialSlotPattern attribute is set to

TDD_SPECIAL_SLOT_PATTERN_01 (3:8:3).

— Carrier 2 (LTE)

• The EUtranCellTDD.frameStartOffset attribute is set to 2 ms.

• The EUtranCellTDD.subframeAssignment attribute is set to 2

(DSUDD).

• The EUtranCellTDD.specialSubframePatternattribute is set to 7

(10:2:2).

10.1 Configure Identical TDD Patterns for the NR+LTE

Deployment

Steps

1. In LTE, a single uplink or downlink subframe must be the same type as the
two NR slots in the same position.
In case of special slots, comparison is needed for each symbol using the
ExternalEUtranCellTDD.subframeAssignment and the
ExternalEUtranCellTDD.specialSubPattern attributes.

2. Set the NRCellDU.tddLteCoexistence attribute to true.

3. The difference between the values of the timeOffset member of the

EUtranCellTDD.frameStartOffset attribute of the two carriers must be
the multiplication of 0.5 ms.
