STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This mini-reseach study will help the researcher to determine the performance of

Grade 7 Science Technology and Engineering Students in Information and

Communications Technology (ICT) at Passi National Highschool in the 3 rd Quarter S.Y.

2022-2023.

Specifically, the goal of this study sought to answer the following questions:

1. How many STE 7 students have outstanding performance (an average of 90 or

above) in ICT?

2. How many STE 7 students have average performance (an average of 83-89) in

ICT?

3. How many STE 7 students failed to pass (have an average of 82 or below) in

ICT?

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has become an integral part

of modern education, providing students with essential skills for their future academic

and professional endeavors. In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, the

ability to navigate and utilize ICT tools effectively has become a prerequisite for success

in various fields.

Passi National High School recognizes the importance of ICT education and has

incorporated it into the curriculum for Grade 7 Science, Technology, and Engineering

students. The 3rd quarter of the academic year 2022-2023 marks a crucial period to

evaluate the performance of these students in ICT, measuring their grasp of key

concepts and practical application skills.

The study aims to assess the performance of Grade 7 Science, Technology, and

Engineering students in ICT at Passi National High School during the 3 rd quarter of the

academic year 2022-2023. By examining their performance, this study seeks to improve

the academic performance of the STE 7 students, identify those who struggle in

learning this subject, identify areas of strength and weakness, and determine the

effectiveness of the current ICT curriculum.

Moreover, the study intends to investigate the academic performance of STE 7 students

in ICT to adress the factors that may influence their performance in ICT. These factors

may include prior exposure to ICT, access to technology resources, instructional

methods, and student’s motivation and engagement. Understanding these factors can

provide valuable insights into the learning environment and help tailor interventions and

support mechanisms to enhance student’s ICT proficiency.

The study's findings will contribute to the existing literature on ICT education and

provide empirical evidence regarding the performance of Grade 7 Science, Technology,

and Engineering students in ICT at Passi National High School. The results will help

inform educational policymakers, curriculum developers, teachers, and school

administrators about the effectiveness of the current ICT curriculum and guide future

improvements to better equip students with essential ICT skills.

Ultimately, the study aims to support the goal of Passi National High School to provide a

quality education that prepares students for the demands of the 21st century. By

enhancing students’ ICT competencies, the school can better equip them with the

necessary skills to succeed academically and professionally in an increasingly digital and

interconnected world.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The significance of this study is that it offers an opportunity for the researcher to

identify Grade 7 Science Technology and Engineering students at Passi National

Highschool who may require support and intervention in the subject of Information and

Communications Technology (ICT). By conducting an assessment of students

performance during the 3rd Quarter of the academic year 2022-2023, this research aims

to determine whether students are facing challenges and difficulties in ICT.

Step 1: Find the range.

Range = Highest Number – Lowest Number

Range = 97 – 87

Range = 10

Step 2: Use 2^k>N rule to find the number of classes.

2^k>N

2^k>70

2^0=1 2^4=16 2^k=2^7 Classes = 7

2^1=2 2^5=32 2^7>70

2^2=4 2^6=64 128>70

2^3=8 2^7=128

Step 3: Find the class width (w).

Class Width = Range/Classes

Class Width = 10/7

Class Width = 1.43

Class Width = 2

1. Find the Percentile Rank of 89

Given: P=89
w=2
N=70
cf=2
L=88.5

Solution:

PR=(100/N)(P-LB+cf/w)

P⁹⁰=(100/70)(89-88.5+2/2)

P⁹⁰=(1.43)(0.5+2/2)

P⁹⁰=(1.43)(2.5/2)

P⁹⁰=(1.43)(1.25)

P⁹⁰=2.14

Therefore, 2.14% of the STE 7 students (3) have an average of less than or equal 89,
while 97.86 of the STE 7 students (67) have an average of 90 and above in ICT.

2. Find the 50th Percentile

Given: w=2 i=2
N=70 k=50/100
kn=35 LB=92.5
cf=20 f=27

Solution:

MP= LB + (kn-cf/f) w P²⁵= 92.5 + (1.11)

P²⁵= LB + (kn-cf/f) w P²⁵= 93.61

kn= 50/100 (70) Therefore, 50% of the STE 7 students (35)

kn= 0.5 (70) have an average of 94 or higher, while the

kn= 35 the other half have an average of less than or

P²⁵= 92.5 + (35-20/27) 2 or equal to 94.

P²⁵= 92.5 + (15/27) 2

P²⁵= 92.5 + (0.56) 2

E. Results and Findings

1.How many STE 7 students have outstanding performance (an average of 90 or

above) in ICT?

Based on the researchers findings, 97.86% of the STE 7 students (67) have an

average of greater than or equal to 90, therefore, these 67 STE 7 students have

a outstanding performances in ICT during the 3rd Quarter of S.Y. 2022-2023.

2.How many STE 7 students have average performance (an average of 83-89) in

ICT?

Based on the researchers findings, 2.14% of the STE 7 students (3) have an

average of less than or equal to 89, therefore, these 3 STE 7 students have a

average performances in ICT during the 3rd Quarter of S.Y. 2022-2023.

3.How many STE 7 students failed to pass (have an average of 82 or below) in

ICT?

Based on the provided data 87 is the lowest average of the STE 7 students in

ICT which is greater than the passing grade of 83 and failing grade of 82 and

below. Therefore, no STE 7 student fail the subjects ICT during the 3 rd Quarter of

S.Y. 2022-2023.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on the results, the STE 7 students got a very high mastery of performance for

the 3rd Quarter in ICT. A large part of STE 7 students have an average of at least 90

and the passing rate is exactly 100% which indicates that among the STE 7 students no

one have failed the subject ICT and the STE 7 students are academically outstanding

and not having difficulty in the subject ICT for the 3rd Quarter of S.Y. 2022-2023.
