RELATIVE / ADJECTIVE CLAUSE

1. Relative clauses begin with the group of connectors THAT THAT OF WHICH the
usually called relative pronouns. They include that, who,
whom, whose, which, where, and when.

2. Who and whom refer to people only. Whom is the ....Person+ WHO/THAT + Aux (To be / To do / To have /
object of a verb or a preposition, but is frequently Modal / Verb)....
replaced by that, though never directly after a preposition.

5. When the connector comes directly after a preposition,

How to decide Non Defining Adjective Clause:

• Use comma between noun and relative pronoun

- Demonstrative adjective (This..., That..., These)
- Possessive adjective (My..., His..., Their.. etc.)
- General thing (The Sun, the Earth)

- ‘who, whom, which, where, when’ CANNOT be
replaced by ‘that’.
