Part I

Question 1 Identify the change….

Tata Motors is taking an important step in the history of Indian

vehicles. They are driving the change and working with other
TATA ecosystem firms to create a visible environment for
electric car adoption. To avoid dangerous gas emissions and fossil
fuel depletion, it was important for society and our planet to
replace obsolete internal combustion engine cars with better
alternatives.

Tata Motors saw this need and responded by launching their new
electric car program. Electric cars are cleaner than internal-
combustion- engine (ICE) vehicles since they do not release
poisonous gases. Furthermore, if the electricity that powers them
comes from a clean source, it adds to the ecological appeal of
electric cars, i.e., they are as clean as the electricity that powers
them.

Question 2b
N Chandrasekhar, the chairman of Tata Motors, has said that the
business may greatly expand its presence in electric vehicles (EVs)
and introduce 10 new battery-electric vehicles across industries in the
Republic of India by 2025.

To secure a steady supply chain for its zero-emission vehicles over

the next ten years, the company, which dominates the Indian
automobile industry, will invest in the manufacture of lithium-ion
cells in both India and Europe.

The business states that it expects work unit penetration in India to

increase significantly over the next years, doubling this year to 2
percent. This occurs at a time when the government has put
restrictions in place to encourage automakers to create and market
electric vehicles to cut carbon emissions.

Customers who choose such automobiles should be encouraged to do

so. In the FY22 Budget, the government declared that the Goods and
Electric car services tax would drop from 12 percent to 5 percent and
buyers of EVs would be subject to income tax rebates.

Two fully electric vehicles are currently available in the market from
Tata Motors - The Tigor and The Nexon work units. A new Altroz
version is anticipated to be published soon.

The Nexon work unit has sold over 4,000 units in India since its
launch in the Gregorian calendar month of 2020, making it the nation's
most well-liked electric travel vehicle.
The creation of the Associate in Nursing work unit program requires
collaboration from a wide range of businesses, from manufacture to
the battery plant to after-sales service. One of the first companies to
use the word "globalization" was the Tata group.

Seven Tata Group companies — Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tata

Chemicals, Croma, Tata Machine Elements, and Tata Motors
Finance — would work together to establish an overall EV strategy,
Chandrasekaran revealed at the launch of Nexon, the company's
initial work unit. Felis Onca As part of its "Reimagine" initiative,
which eliminates the combustion engine in favor of zero-emission
technology, Land Rover, the company's British business, said earlier
this year that six out of every ten Land Rover cars will be electric by
2030. Competitors of Tata Motors take a range of measures to raise
quality. Mahindra & Mahindra has restructured and created a new
vertical for the work unit sector, while Suzuki, the largest
manufacturer, is placing a bet on CNG vehicles.

Question 3
“In order to help all players understand common objectives, develop
capabilities and infrastructure, and limit any surprises along the way,
he has stated that the government and business must create a multi-
year road plan with milestones.” This one sentence will reveal to the
world the leader that lives within of him. A leader needs to be self-
driven and ready to guide his team through any challenge. He ought
to be able to provide the world original answers. He is now a hero
thanks to the EV effort. Having a vision is the core concept of
leadership. It must be a vision that you can consistently articulate
passionately and convincingly. Future-oriented leaders have a
vision. Others want to share and follow their vision and goal. The
leadership vision goes beyond your organization's official purpose
and vision statements. The behaviors, beliefs, values, and aspirations
of the executives in your firm reflect the leadership vision that
permeates the workplace. This vision resonates with and has an
impact on every employee who participates in living out this set of
behaviors, attitudes, standards, and objectives. They would desire to
participate in your vision.

Question 4a
Without a doubt, the Nexon has dominated the Indian market, because
due to its greater power range, larger power consumption, and, most
crucially, its superior construction. Many people favor it since it has
more built-in area.

Even though Mahindra's e20 has been a success, it is still less popular
than Nexon. The e20 only has a range of 110 kilometers, compared to
310 kilometers for the Nexon. The leadership should work to enhance
these features, including range, comfort, and energy consumption, to
guarantee future success.

This might be done by doing in-depth research into the needs and goals
of the clients, then incorporating that information into their brand-new
project. Increasing the vehicle's range and passenger comfort should be
the main priorities.

Question 4b
Management should now endeavor to persuade employees to expand
the success of a small-scale automotive onto considerably bigger
automobiles ranging from SUVs to MUVs after a trial effort to corner
the eV market was successful. Mahindra should make investments to
extend its eV market by launching better cars that can compete with
more costly brands like Tesla and Hyundai since the electric vehicle
sector is predicted to grow at a fast speed. To be able to survive in the
field, the leadership should invest more time in learning about
technology. In order to bring in additional experience, they need also
train their employees in this technology.

Question 5
“Analyze the key factors (drivers, choices, tactics, or other activities)
that led to Tata Nexon's immediate success. Out of 2.959 units sold,
2.086 (2,200 since launch) were sold by Nexon EV, making up nearly
70% of all sales and a 4 to 1 ratio”

The most amazing feature of the narrative is this. The fluid, which has
been choked by the pandemic, has bucked market trends with strong
sales growth, despite the fact that the industry named the Tata Nexon
EV a "major EV adoption sector."

Dismantling obstacles Despite missing out on the first quarter due to

the lockout, 2959 units of electric vehicles were sold between April and
November 2020. Taking Down Obstacles Despite missing the first
quarter due to the lockdown, approximately 3,000 electric vehicles
(2959 units) were sold between April and November 2020. Covid-19
put a stop to the progress of the EV ecosystem, notably the
construction of charging infrastructure and the consequent lockout. The
Tata group, on the other hand, indicated that they intended to introduce
autos since the majority of the market is still for individual users, and
they did not want the category to be labeled as a taxi segment.

They will, however, continue to create goods for individual consumers,

since classifying electric vehicles primarily for street use and taxis will
hurt the industry in the long term. In the first quarter, they sold roughly
300 powered autos, 500 in the second, and 600 in the third. The federal
government has talked about moving away from fossil fuels and toward
renewable-energy electric automobiles for the past three years, but
most projects have been restricted to sectors of shared transportation.
The car will cost between Rs.15 lacs and Rs.17 lacs, making it one of
the cheapest in the market. When enough charging stations are
constructed and numerous consumer items are available, the next point
of inflection will be around 2022.

Question 6a
EVs to customers.

Whether it's engineering sales or after sales, learning a new technology

is never without its challenges. The best way to deal with this is to
provide every employee thorough instruction on modern technology.
Since ignorance breeds doubt, which breeds resistance, obligatory
confidence building trainings ought to be required. Every employee,
from engineering to sales, should complete a module in which they
learn all there is to know about the automobile. Any questions should
be answered in a real-world situation so that staff members can act
responsibly.

onboarding timeline of 3 months.

The most crucial portion of an electric vehicle is the battery system,

and the normal three-month period is meant to provide in-depth
background and performance examinations by outside parties as well
as access to online data. This might be avoided by working with a
group that is well-known for its high calibre of service and is present
all over the world. When we have a few dealers, we can arrange in-
person meetings to go through our needs; if someone is able to provide
exactly what we need, he will be the favored choice, and we will go
forward with him. The primary focus should be on finding applicants
with past expertise in this industry rather than evaluating fresh
possibilities. A more skilled candidate ought to find dealing with
official paperwork to be simpler.

Question 7
The 6.2 MW solar carport from Tata Power will produce 86.4 lakh
kWh of electricity annually and is anticipated to reduce carbon
emissions by 7,000 tonnes annually and 1.6 lakh tonnes over the course
of its lifespan. In addition to producing green energy, this 30,000
square meter carport will offer covered parking for the final
automobiles produced at the factory. In order to achieve its net zero
carbon goal for 2039, Tata Motors and Tata Power entered into a
Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) on August 31, 2020. The enterprises
were able to finish this carport infrastructure in a record-breaking 9.5
months despite the challenges created by COVID-19. As part of the
One Tata program, we are pleased to work with Tata Motors to
officially open India's largest solar carport. Our partnership is evidence
of our group's work to cut carbon emissions and provide innovative,
long-term green energy solutions. According to the business, "We'll
keep exploring for novel ways to harness clean resources and make
them available to our partners and consumers."

Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD of Tata Power, said. Tata Motors, a

signatory to the RE100, is dedicated to utilizing only renewable energy
in its operations. By steadily raising the amount of renewable energy
used in its operations, the company has made considerable strides
toward this goal. The firm produced 88.71 million kWh of renewable
energy in FY20, or around 21% of its total output energy consumption
(up from 16 percent in FY19). This prevented the emission of the
equivalent of 72,739 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2). In order
to meet its target of obtaining 100 percent renewable energy by 2030,
the firm also intends to acquire renewable energy.
