AND

Applications

Calcium Chloride products are cement accelerators that help reduce waiting-on-cement (WOC) time. They are
used for primary, plug or squeeze cementing to develop early compressive strength and shorten thickening time.
Calcium Chloride are pure flake or pellet anhydrous calcium chloride with a specific gravity of 1.96. These forms
normally are dry- blended in the cement but also dissolve very readily in the mixing water. Calcium Chloride-L,
typically used offshore or where dry-blending facilities are unavailable, is a clear, liquid calcium chloride solution
added to the mixing water. Other chlorides such as sodium and potassium have less accelerating effect when
using equivalent concentrations.

Features

Cement Accelerator
Calcium Chloride provides high-early strength development in cement.

Easily Blended or Dispersed

Calcium Chloride is easily blended in the cement or dispersed in the mixing water. Calcium Chloride-L is easily
dispersed in the mixing water.

Compatibility
Calcium Chloride is compatible with all API cements.

Benefits

Reduces WOO time, saving valuable rig time.

Economical as compared to some other accelerators.
Effectively accelerates all types of cement for versatile application.
Calcium Chloride is used in concentrations of 1 to 4% BWOC, typically 2%.
Calcium Chloride-L normally is added to the mixing water. Concentrations are expressed in gallons per 100 sacks
of cement (GHS). It has a specific gravity of 1.317 and 27 GHS of Calcium Chloride-L is equivalent to
approximately 1% dry calcium chloride.

Safety Precautions

Use normal personal protective equipment when working with Calcium Chloride. Calcium Chloride produce a
heat reaction when added to water. Take care to avoid any potential hazard from the excessive heat.

Limitations

Calcium Chloride causes increased cement slurry fluid loss when used with HEC polymer-type fluid loss control
additives.

Competitive Products

CaCl2, S-1, Liquid CaCl2 and D-77.
