INTRODUCTION

Animal experimentation, what is it about?

It consists of testing the products on live animals to see their reactions; These tests are
extremely painful, stressful and invasive, most of these animals are euthanized after using
them in an experiment, as is known, several recognized companies test animals which causes
the death of many animals, in which they die in the process. in which animals are forced to
ingest and inhale cosmetic ingredients or, failing that, the ingredient is applied to shaved skin
daily for a period of 20 to 90 days for further analysis. To avoid the purchase of these
companies that test animals there are many actions such as downloading applications in which
they inform you that the products are free from experimentation with animals, also see the
logo of the products when you go to buy it in which the logos that indicate that They are free
from animal testing, these are like a bunny, so there are several ways to avoid these facts from
animal testing.

1
II. OBJECTIVES

2.1. General objective

To describe the abuse animals suffered by different companies who test their products on
them, by identifying the different experiments they go through in order to inform the society
about this cruel situation.

2.2. Specific Objectives

1-To identify the main companies that experiment with animals.

2-To Describe the type of experiments they do with animals.

3-To Analyze the risk of such experiments.

4-To Mention how we can identify these products that are tested by companies.

5-To Help raise awareness about the situation of these animals, through social networks.

III. RATIONAL

Well, I decided to talk about this issue out of respect for the lives of animals, since they feel
that they live like us, this issue got my attention when I saw a video that went viral called
Help for Ralh which explains the abuse that each animal or more that all rabbits suffer in
laboratories more than 100 million animals die each year from experiments and
experimentation with vivisection animals has misguided researchers for centuries disorienting
our understanding of the human body and the diseases that beset it.

The importance of this topic I think is about

Like humans, animals have rights that must be respected, such as the right to freedom, not to
be caused pain, to the satisfaction of their basic needs and the preservation of their habitat. ...
This makes them deserving of the right to life without unnecessary suffering.

Humans have an obligation of justice to respect and empower the capacities of nonhuman
animals. The concept of norms of the species of this approach brings us closer to a grading of
rights based on natural capacities related to the norm of the species.

2
IV. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

4.1 Companies that test animals

According to PETA, Cruelty Free Guide, and Ethical Elephant, the following cosmetic
companies maintain their tests on animals:

Almay.

Avene.

Avon.

Beiersdorf.

Benefit.

Bobbi Brown.

Bourjois.

Burberry.

other cases too

Shaving Foam: Pressurizes into the stomach of animals.

Hair Spray: The substance is inhaled until a coma is achieved.

Shampoo: Animals are forced to ingest it and concentrates are introduced into the eyes of
rabbits.

Toothpaste: Rabbits, rats, and guinea pigs are forced to ingest it

PROCTER & GAMBLE

Chemical, cosmetic and balanced company. It is one of the main players worldwide in the sale
of detergents, present in 140 countries, and markets more than 300 brands (mostly in the area
of hygiene and personal care). Chemical, cosmetic and balanced tests on animals; has been
denounced for issues of corporate influence, transgenics, human rights, pollution ...

Among its companies is Iams / Eukanuba, a balanced feed for animals, purchased by Procter
& Gamble in September 1999. In addition to the animal testing practices carried out by P&G,
Iams performs sterile and macabre animal experiments until death.

3
REPORT:

On October 22, 2003, in an article titled "Procter & Gamble HUNTED", the BUAV reveals
that Procter & Gamble has been actively and aggressively lobbying decision-makers in the
European Union to reduce the impact of any European ban animal testing in order to continue
their animal experimentation activities.

An internal memorandum sent to the British Union against the Abolition of Vivisection
(published in the British newspaper The Independent on April 11, 2002) revealed that Procter
& Gamble had secretly pressured the European Community to support animal testing for
articles beauty and toilet.

The memorandum explained that Procter & Gamble's interest in experimenting with animals
should be kept secret, and that "it was important that Procter & Gamble stay out of the media,
as it could damage its image to be seen as a company that experiments in animals." Procter &
Gamble's idea was to conduct these experiments outside of the UK.

NESTLÉ S.A

Food and balanced company. It is the largest food producing company in the world, with 479
factories in 81 countries, and more than 150 brands. Balanced test on animals; It has been
criticized for GMO issues, child exploitation, adulterated products, pollution, ethics ...

One of his companies, Purina Petcare (formerly Ralston Purina) that appears in the lists of
companies that experiment on animals, acquired by Nestlé, has been experimenting since
1926, in a complex called Purina Pet Care Center. Among the experiments they carry out,
there are studies that induce kidney failure in dogs and other animals and then try to cure them
with a low-protein diet.

The tests with animals to "create or investigate new balanced" are totally useless, lacking
scientific rigor, cruel and macabre, and much less now, that we have methods such as
"Techno-Tu", which reproduces all the reactions that should food or substance in the digestive
system of the animal.

4.2 Types of animal experimentation

Non-human animals are used in laboratories for various purposes. Some examples of animal
experimentation include product testing, the use of animals as research models, and as
educational tools. Within each of these categories there may also be many different purposes
for which they are used. For example, some are used as tools for military or biomedical
7
research; some, to test cosmetics and household cleaning products; and some are used in
dissection classes to teach teenagers the anatomy of frogs or to do a doctoral thesis

There are many types of animal experimentation depending on the field where it is
investigated:

Agri-food research: study of genes with agronomic interest and the design of transgenic
plants or animals.

Medicine and veterinary medicine: diagnosis of diseases, creation of vaccines, treatment

and cure of diseases, etc.

Biotechnology: protein production, biosafety, etc.

Environment: analysis and detection of contaminants, biosecurity, population genetics,

studies of migratory behavior, studies of reproductive behavior, etc.

Genomics: analysis of the structures and functions of genes, creation of genomic banks,
creation of animal models of human diseases, etc.

Pharmacy: biomedical engineering for diagnosis, xenotransplantation (creation of organs in

pigs and primates for transplantation to humans), creation of new drugs, toxicology, etc.

Oncology: studies of tumor progression, creation of new tumor markers, metastasis,

prediction of tumors, etc.

Infectious diseases: study of bacterial diseases, resistance to antibiotics, studies of viral

diseases (hepatitis, myxomatosis, HIV ...), parasitic (Leishmania, malaria, filariasis ...)

Neurosciences: study of neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's), study of nervous tissue,

pain mechanisms, creation of new therapies, etc.

Cardiovascular diseases: heart disease, hypertension, etc.In laboratories, animals are used
mainly for toxicity tests

4.3 Risks of animal experimentation

Among the risks associated with animals used in experimentation are: Inherent risks to
animals: Animals can be carriers of infectious and zoonotic diseases, which they can transmit
to animal unit personnel.

8
The many drugs that are considered safe based on animal experiments but which caused
serious or even fatal adverse effects in humans are proof that the results of animal
experiments cannot be reliably transferred to humans necessary.

Animal experiments are dangerous It is often claimed that animal testing is indispensable,
because a »whole organism« is supposedly necessary for drug development. Animals may be
complete organisms, but they are useless. Animals and humans differ considerably in
anatomy, physiology, and metabolism. Even animals of different species can react very
differently to chemicals and drugs. It is not possible to predict whether a human being will
react the same or differently in the results of experiments carried out on animals. A study by
the pharmaceutical company Pfizer concluded that one would be better off flipping a coin that
will rely on animal experiments to answer the question of carcinogens.

Either due to insufficient efficacy or unwanted side effects.

For example, the "invention" of mouse cancer that was believed to be the long-awaited key to
the fight against malignant tumors. In the mid-1980s, researchers at Harvard University
succeeded in inserting a human cancer gene into the genome of mice, causing the rodents to
prematurely develop tumors. Since then, tens of miles of mice with cancer have been "cured,"
but all treatments that were "successful" in rodents failed in humans. Experimental research in
animals regularly heralds advances in all kinds of disorders. Experiments with animals,
supposedly proved to be successful with this one or another method of treatment in the fight
against Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, cancer, atherosclerosis,
etc

However, the hopes of the patients Those affected are almost always disappointed, and
celebrated miracles are never heard again. Human beings are not only not mice. Scientific
studies are increasingly casting doubt on the benefits of animal experiments. They show that
the results of animal tests often do not correlate with the knowledge obtained from humans,
and that animal experiments are often irrelevant for clinical application for humans.
According to a British study based on relevant scientific publications, the results of different
treatment methods were compared in laboratory animals and in patients. Only three of the six
disorders investigated gave correlations, the other half did not.

4.4 What types of products are free from animal testing

9
The term cruelty free has recently become one of the most searched on the Internet in the last
week. In its translation into Spanish it means "cruelty-free" and it is the expression used by
brands to identify products that, at the time of manufacture, were not tested on animals.

The theme has gained momentum in the wake of the short film called Save Ralph, which is
about the life of a rabbit used to test make-up and beauty-related items.

In most countries, brands or companies that sell Cruelty Free products display a symbol or
logo on their packaging indicating that they do not test on animals. Images or silhouettes of
rabbits often appear on these stamps, as well as the inscriptions "vegan". What specific brands
don't you test on animals?

BDIH.

JUMP BUNNY.

NATRUE.

A voice.

PETA.

There are also apps that can help you buy these products. Bunny Free seeks to show in a
simple way that it is not experimented with animals for the creation of the product. You can
quickly scan a product's barcode and instantly know whether it was tested on animals or not.

The application is free for Android and iOS and the best of all is that it is regularly updated.

4.4.1 Cruelty free products

Pharmagene Laboratories in Royston, England, is the only company that exclusively uses
human tissues and computer models in drug development and product testing. Pharmagene
studies how drugs affect human genes and their proteins, using molecular biology,
biochemistry, and analytical pharmacology. While some companies use animal tissues for this
research, Pharmagene scientists believe that the process is much more efficient using human
tissues. "If we have information on human genes, what is the point of turning to animals?"
Says Pharmagene co-founder Gordon Baxter.

Rather than applying chemicals to the animals' eyes for toxicity tests, researchers can now
grow cells on a membrane and electrically monitor changes in cells that have been exposed to
the chemicals.

4.4.2 Medical applications

10
In medicine, the main source of information comes from hospitals, clinics, and epidemiology
statistics. Volunteers, autopsies, case studies and statistical analysis allow greater precision in
the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases than experiments on animals, which contract
diseases in conditions very different from those of humans

TIME AND MONEY

Non-animal tests are generally cheaper, faster and more accurate than those using animals.

4.5 Awareness about animal testing

We can educate people by making small campaigns, using the networks by making small
videos, as well as other tips

Do not buy products tested on animals, download a Cruelty Free App: get one on your
mobile, such as Cruelty Cutter or Bunny Free, it will be very useful when making the
purchase because you can check with your barcode reader if the product has been tested or not
on animals

Inform those around you of the alternatives they have when it comes to consuming cruelty-
free

Join the requests of the organizations that work to eradicate animal experimentation, that they
reach the ears of the companies that use them and the legislators

Collaborate financially with organizations, they need your help.

Learn without harm

More and more medical students refuse to experiment on animals, and many of them
graduated without having used them. In the UK, it is illegal for medical students to perform
surgery on animals, and several major universities, including Harvard, Yale and Stanford,
now use innovative methods that do not require animals. Harvard offers a cardiac anesthesia
practice where students observe open-heart operations rather than practicing on dogs.

What can you do?

If you own stock in a company that tests animals, write a letter stating why you oppose the
use of animals.

He asks the FDA to stop requiring animal testing in the pharmaceutical industry and to allow
companies to substitute in vitro testing.

11
V. CONCLUSIONS

In this part we are going to introduce to talk a little about the topic Millions of animals are
harassed, deprived of food, sleep and rest, maternally deprived, mutilated, poisoned, pierced,
induced diseases and killed every year to test chemicals or perform scientific experiments.

Well, many companies, one known, as you could see previously, cruelly test the animals,
leaving them almost dead, torturing them with the process, there are ways that we can make a
replacement with bacteria, fungi, since each animal is a life, it is another living being, we can
raise awareness to the people.

Animal testing is doing cruel tests on animals and then sacrificing them for a lot, this seems
outrageous but still they continue to use products. But well we cannot blame them, they do
not know it, however all the medicines and vaccines for us are tested on them so for me if the
animal testing does not have any medical or scientific purpose, it is violence because when we
do this on animals only for cosmetic perfumes or clothes is a way to show how selfish we are.

VI. RECOMMENDATIONS

But what can we do to help laboratory animals? Here are some tips:

 Support antivivisection and animal testing initiatives.

 Let's be responsible consumers: Do not buy products that are tested on animals or that
contain ingredients that have been tested on animals.
 As consumers, we have the power to decide which products we spend our money on.
We must support ethical companies and avoid consuming the products of those that
are not.
 Do not travel on airlines that transport primates to the experimentation laboratories

12
 It helps to raise awareness about the situation of laboratory animals. Get informed, talk
with your friends and acquaintances about the subject, spread the information through
social networks
