B.3 Create a New Tool

If there is more than one tool, create the new tools as needed. There are two ways: One is to
copy from a tool already exists and then edit the copy. Another way is to create a new one.
The way to create a new tool please refer to relevant chapter of Warrior 7.0 Operating
Manual.

B.4 Tool Monitoring

B.4.1 On the main window of Warrior Logging System, click on Edit - Device
Configuration and select SDSTIP on the drop list as shown in Fig.12.

Fig. 12

B.4.2 The SDS Tool Interface Panel Configur… window will open as shown in Fig.13.

B.4.3 Gain, Q and Fc will have default values and may be adjusted according to the
appearance and decoding errors of waveforms in the Tel Threshold window.

Appendix 10-7
Fig. 13

B.4.4 Click on Monitor-Devices- DSP in the Warrior Logging System window menu to
monitor the status of communication between telemetry and Warrior system as shown in
Fig.14.

Fig. 14

B.4.5 The Telemetry Monitor window will pop up as shown in Fig.15. Here you can select to
Show Channels or Show Telemetry to monitor all the values in each channel or to monitor
the working status of telemetry.

B.4.6 Click on Action-Power Control in the Warrior Logging System window menu, as
shown in Fig.16.

Fig. 16

B.4.7 The Power Control… window will open as shown in Fig. 17.

Fig. 17

Check Enable and the LINE ENABLE led on Warrior panel will turn ON.

Rotate the POS ADJUST knob CW until the reading of VOLTAGE is between 90-95V on
cable head.

B.4.8 CURRENT will now be 30±5mA. If not, check the tools and all connections. If the
tool and system are working properly, positive and negative pulses should be visible in the Tel
Threshold window shown in Fig.18.

B.5 Telemetry Synchronization

When using a new cable the first time, the input impedance of the Warrior system must be

Appendix 10-9
matched with the output impedance of the cable and then the telemetry signal will be
recognized by surface system. This is done by adjusting the parameters of Gain, Q and Fc in
the SDS Tool Interface Panel Configure…window as shown in Fig.13. Your settings for
Aux should be around: Gain = 0.03, Q = 0.33, Fc = 1600, HighPass or Gain = 0.05, Q = 0.4,
Fc = 20000, Bandpass. These values are only for reference. Different cable uses different
values.

Use the sliding bars on the left of the Tel Threshold window (Fig.18) to adjust the position of
positive threshold (red line) and negative threshold (blue line). Please monitor Frame Count
and Error Count while adjusting. Frame Count will continuously increase and Error Count
will remain steady after the cable is matched.

The Gain should be adjusted by looking on left signal (Fig.18). The amplitude of signal will
not exceed out of the window. You may need to use the sliding bar for fine tune of Gain as
shown right. Your sliding Aux Gain in the Panel Controls window should be set to
approximately 15 or so initially. Fc means the central frequency of our telemetry signal. Q
means the sharpness of signal frequency. We generally use smaller value of Q.
Generally, cable matching is done only once. After adjusted, all parameters changed to match
cable and surface panel will be saved to a configuration file and needn’t to be changed again
unless the cable is shortened or spliced or a surface panel is changed.

XIPE24 Tool Monitor windows shows all the data logged from down hole tools. HeadV
shows voltage on cable head, which is measured by down hole tool and should be 85~90V. If
not, adjust POS ADJUST knob on Warrior Panel. Fig. 19 shows a typical 24 Arm-finger
caliper data.
