EMERGENCY PLAN and EVACUATION PROCEDURE for Electro Fibre during

all Projects:

Purpose:

The purpose of this plan is to provide a framework to respond to emergency situations that
may arise on Electro Fibrework sites during projects.

Electro Fibre has identified the following scenarios as having the greatest potential
Emergency Threat to our operations.

• Fire
• Civil Unrest and Strikes
• Gas Release incidents
• Floods

Planning:

Supervisors will plan the response to emergency situations by identifying safe escape
routes on a schematic drawing and instructing workers about emergency response
procedures and emergency assembly points BEFORE any work is done.

Response to Emergency situations:

• FIRE:
1. Stay calm and identify the type of fire.
2. Raise the Fire Alarm.
3. Workers to vacate the area immediately to a pre-arranged assembly point.
4. Fire Fighters will attempt to put out the fire.
5. Flammable materials and vehicles will be removed away from the fire if safe to do
so.
6. If the fire can be extinguished workers may return to work if it is determined by
the Site Supervisor and Fire Fighters that it is safe to do so.
7. If the fire cannot be contained or extinguished the Emergency Services will be
notified immediately and surrounding businesses will be notified.
8. In case of bush fires all workers will move up-wind of the fire to a safe area and
emergency services will be notified immediately.

to vacate the construction site to a safe area. (a safe area might be a close by
business or factory. If a safe area cannot be immediately accessed, workers will
leave the area using main roads until they are safe.
3. IMPORTANT! Do not get involved in confrontations with strikers. Do not get
boxed in. Always ensure that there is an identified escape route. Notify authorities
immediately.

• GAS RELEASE:
1. Upon discovery of the gas leak immediately raise the gas alarm.
2. Identify the wind direction.
3. All workers will move upwind from the gas leak and stay as far as possible away
from the source.
4. Authorities and Emergency services will be notified immediately.
5. Businesses and residents who may be affected by the gas leak will be notified
immediately.
6. No worker will be allowed to smoke during a gas leak incident.
7. All electrical tools and petrol driven machinery will be switched OFF when the gas
alarm is raised.
8. No workers will be allowed to return to site until the area has been declared safe
by the Emergency Services.

• FLOODS:
1. Do not enter areas that are flooded.
2. Do not drive through flooded crossings or over low water bridges, find an
alternative route.
3. Identify high ground and move away from flooded area.
4. Stay out of canals and low lying areas; they may become flooded without
warning.
5. Consider the risk of getting trapped in a water locked area and plan accordingly.
