Parts of a Book
What is a book? A book is a number of pages bound together at one edge between
two covers.
The spine holds the book together. The spine is the book's backbone. It is
generally all you can see when a book is on the shelf, the spine displays
the title ,author of the book, the call number or class number and the
publishing company and is often ornately decorated. The top edge of the
spine is called the head and the bottom edge the tail.
The cover protects the pages and displays the title and author’s name
The dust jacket protects the book and enhances the appearance of the book. It has
two flaps; the front flap has a short introduction of what the book is about while the
back flap has a short biographical data about the author. This information is referred
to as the blurb.
Step 1: Students will be shown a YouTube video (through screen sharing). This will
allow the students to participate in the song being shared “Dry Bones (Dem Bones)”.
Students will then discuss the various parts mentioned and state their importance of
each body part to the whole. This discussion will be guided by the teacher.
