Accomplishment Report in Phil-IRI

The Department of Education (DepEd) supports Every Child a Reader Program, which

aims to make every Filipino child a reader and a writer at his/her grade level. Thus, the DepEd

through the Bureau of Learning Delivery-Teaching and Learning Division (BLD-TLD) continue

to administer the Revised Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) assessment to

learners in public elementary schools nationwide.

One of its objectives is to use the Phil-IRI data to serve as one of the bases in planning,

designing/redesigning the reading instruction of the teachers and the school’s reading programs

or activities to improve the overall school’s reading performance.

Langagan Elementary School upholds the objectives of BLD-TLD in order to attain the

objectives of country's Education for All. Based on the reading passages and findings of the Phil-

IRI which was conducted in September 2021 to all Grade 3-6 pupils, it showed that most of them

had poor comprehension skills in reading and there are those reading levels were in frustration.

By conducting remedial instructions, video-record reading technique, online reading and

distributing reading materials to those identified learners with poor comprehension, the learners

increased their reading levels from frustration to instructional and independent levels.

Project: I CARE
Interactive and Contextualized Activities for Reading Enhancement

As the Phil-IRI

The contextualized

Conclusion
It must, in conclusion, be emphasized that conducting reading remediation is not easy as

many teachers reckon. It needs a lot of patience and time flexibility to fulfill the needs of these

pupils under reading difficulties.

Nevertheless, with the remediation activities conducted, it can be noted that the reading

performance of pupils gradually improved into independent level and decreased in frustration

level.

By constantly doing this kind of initiatives, then we can affirm that “No Child is Left

Behind” despite of many limitations that Covid-19 had given. And that gives us teachers the

feeling of worth and self-fulfillment.
