Course Challenge

Challenge: Open the supplied dataset, Clamp Assembly.f3d. The objective of this course challenge is to
complete this partial assembly by designing a linkage for the clamp mechanism An example of this
linkage is pictured in red below.

The following steps/items are required:

Design

• Use the provided assembly to determine the dimensions necessary for the linkage pin.
• Create fully defined sketches.
• Use any combination of 3D features to create the part.
• You are encouraged to use feature patterns to simplify repetitive operations.

Assemble

• Insert the pin into the overall assembly and apply appropriate Joints for all components.
• Configure Joint Limits and Animate them to ensure motion is as expected.
• Create an exploded view of this assembly in the Animation workspace.
• Use the exploded view for a drawing with an accompanying Parts List.
• Create a separate sheet for the designed linkage pin and add appropriate dimensions.
• Additionally, create and export a render of the fully assembled device.

Manufacture

• In the Manufacture workspace, define a new tool appropriate for machining the part.
• Use 2D Face and 2D Contour toolpaths to remove material in roughing passes.
• Create any additional toolpaths needed to finish the part.
• Use the Simulate tool to verify the operations are working properly.
• Create an NC program and review the resulting G-code to ensure there are no issues.

Simulation

• Create a Static Stress Simulation to determine the

maximum stress in the linkage pin.
• Use Simplify to focus on relevant components.
• Setup the study by assigning a material of your choice.
• Generate Automatic Contacts for the remaining
components in the simulation model.
• Apply Structural Constraints and define load cases for
several scenarios.
• Solve the simulation and use the Results tools to
determine the maximum stress in the pin.
