Project :DISMANTLING OF 4 UNITS ALKANE TANK AT EAST YARD

Subject :METHOD STATEMENT ( GENERAL)

The following details are the methods of construction for the Dismantling of 4 units Alkane tank at East
Yard.

1. Mobilization

a. Mobilization of manpower and staff for coordination and preparation of needed

requirements and work permits.
b. Mobilize tools and equipment needed for the project.

2. Site Clearing and survey.

a. Survey site from possible affected equipment, products utilities and other items.
b. Determine the equipment needed for the dismantling.
c. Ensure that there no electrical power lines near the site to affect the equipment needed.
d. Ensure the tank is already empty on any hazardous chemical.
e. Ensure that the existing water supply pipe is properly supported.

3. ENTRY TO THE TANK.

a. Secure confined space permit.
b. Ensure that the tank is gas tested.
c. Provide 2 units exhaust blower.
d. Clean the tank using power pressure water.
e. Cut opening for the proper entry of tools and personnel using oxy/ace with flash back
arrestor at both end of cutting hose. (1.00m x 2.10 opening.)
4. Positioning of Equipment

a. Positioning of Crane shall be in proper position and will operate by competent operator with
NCII certificate and competent rigger, ensure that the equipment has also certificate of
maintenance.

b. Use Manlift or scissor lift for the manpower to cut the plate and ensure that the area for the
positioning of Scissor lift is levelled.

c. Provide lifting plan calculation.

d. Observe and execute safety during positioning of equipment.

e. Check all the electrical power supply that affected in lifting.

f. Safety Officer shall be present at all times.

g. During lifting time crane position should follow the required distance from high voltage
electrical power.

5. Cutting of Roof plate of tank.

a. Ensure that the lifting eye are properly installed on the top plate
b. Ensure that the lifting cable are connected to the lifting eye.
c. Cutting of the plate start at the top edge of the Tank
d. Ensure during cutting of plate there is no personnel inside the tank.
e. Provide tagging for every cut plate.
f. Provide drawing for every tank with proper tagging system.
g. After completing cutting, lift the cut plate down slowly to the proper place.
h. Provide proper support for before cutting the plate base on given cutting list.
i. Ensure that during lifting the area is cordon off.
j. Provide fire extinguisher during cutting.
k. Provide fire blanket if needed.
l. Observe and execute safety during lifting of MS Plate.
m. The fire hose is already available at the site during cutting.

For Alkane Tank T5:

a. Ensure that the lifting eye are properly installed on the top plate
b. Ensure that the lifting cable are connected to the lifting eye.
c. The roof plate will be divided into two since the maximum capacity of the crane when fully
extended at the height of 11.90m is only 2.52 tons, whereas the total weight of the roof
plate is 3.24 tons.
 d. An 8layer scaffolding will be used to install the shell support inside the tank.
e. Cutting of the plate start at the top edge of the Tank.
f. Ensure during cutting of plate there is no personnel inside the tank.
g. Provide tagging for every cut plate.
h. Provide drawing for every tank with proper tagging system.
i. After completing cutting, lift the cut plate down slowly to the proper place.
j. Provide proper support for before cutting the plate base on given cutting list.
k. Ensure that during lifting the area is cordon off.
l. Provide fire extinguisher during cutting.
m. Provide fire blanket if needed.
n. Observe and execute safety during lifting of MS Plate.
o. The fire hose is already available at the site during cutting.

6.Cutting of Side Plate.

a. Provide lifting eye at the top of cutting plate.
b. Use oxy-ace or plasma cutting ensure that the cutting outfit has arrestor at both end of
cutting hose.
c. Put the lifting cable before cutting.
d. Lift the cutting plate slowly down to the ground.
e. Provide proper support before cutting of plate base on given cutting list.
f. Secure the area during lifting activity.
g. Observe and execute safety during lifting.
h. Cutting of plate is up to 6PM only.
i. Provide fire extinguisher during cutting.
j. Provide fire blanket if needed.
k. Cutting of plate with rivet should cut under or below the rivet at least 4” to 6” from rivet.
l. Use tagging for assembly purposes.
m. Provide drawing for every tank with proper tagging.

For Alkane Tank T5:

a. Provide lifting eye at the top of cutting plate.
b. The top layer of the tank will be divided into two. A shell support will be installed at the top
layer to ensure that the plate will not collapse or deform during cutting,
c. An 8 layer scaffolding will be installed in the side where the manlift cannot reach. The
welder will use this scaffolding and will cut from inside the tank. Markings will be place as
guide for the welder.
d. For the other sides that the manlift can reach, the 2 units manlift will be use to carry the
welder during cutting of plate.
e. Use oxy-ace or plasma cutting ensure that the cutting outfit has arrestor at both end of
cutting hose.
f. Put the lifting cable before cutting.
g. Lift the cutting plate slowly down to the ground.
h. Provide proper support before cutting of plate base on given cutting list.
i. Secure the area during lifting activity.
j. Observe and execute safety during lifting.
k. Cutting of plate is up to 6PM only.
 l. Provide fire extinguisher during cutting.
m. Provide fire blanket if needed.
n. Cutting of plate with rivet should cut under or below the rivet at least 4” to 6” from rivet.
o. Use tagging for assembly purposes.
p. Provide drawing for every tank with proper tagging.

7.Site Clearing, disposal and demobilization

a. Safety officers shall be present @ all times.

b. All works shall be done only if Work Permit is signed by authority.
c. Good house - keeping shall be implemented daily.
