Dear Miss Hopkins,

As a foreign immigrant myself and an expat from a wealthy family that worked hard
to obtain their wealth, I strongly disagree with your blasphemous rant about migrants
and the way we should handle the problem. In the end, we should not let our
prejudice come in between the truth and the solution.

You unashamedly express your hate for migrants by making derogatory remarks
towards them. You called them ‘cockroaches,’ ‘a waste of our taxpayers resources’
and I'm sorry to say, but the things you said are nothing but baseless taunting, which
is now crossing the line into racism. Just because their war torn countries are below
human standards to live in, and then they seek refuge in your lavish nation, will you
be so inconsiderate to not let them in? Be real here; if you didn't win the birth lottery
and instead ended up like one of them, you would do the exact same thing. Now
imagine obnoxious people like yourself who are so insensitive to fellow humans
being consumed by their circumstances and reflect on your words. You yourself
exacerbate your insensitivity by saying ‘I don't care… even if you show me dead
bodies.’ If everyone were to think like you, whole races would be exterminated due to
mass genocides from this extreme right-wing mentality. Thank goodness most of our
government bodies don’t have the same rancid thought process of you. If dark
sarcasm was something you were trying to get across, then I’m sorry to say it
doesn’t work in any shape or form.

To add fuel to the fire, your sickening remarks are topped with extreme violence. You
suggest an unrealistic solution where we use armed gunships on migrants instead of
rescue boats. In addition, the use of gunships to stop migrants would also have a
significant impact on the relationship between countries and would likely result in
further tension and conflict (which you yourself want to eradicate). The international
community (including you) has a responsibility to respect the human rights of all
individuals, regardless of their citizenship or migration status. The use of gunships to
stop migrants would send a clear message that these rights are not valued and
would likely result in increased mistrust and hostility between countries.

Furthermore, in what position are you in anyway? You quite frankly don’t have any
direct control on the situation and even despite that, you choose to be destructive in
your views and ideologies. Let me tell you something: You resemble Hitler, you feel
the same way about migrants, the same way Hitler despised the jews. Both massive
groups of human beings, totally innocent, only to be segregated and looked down
upon by society because of indecent influencers like you.
In your article, you not only offend the migrants, who are already in a poor state- you
also offend the Australians. In what right mind do you think this was humorous? Or if
you were being serious, then there is impeccable evidence that you are not a good
person. This is what you said: ‘Australians are like British people but with balls of
steel and tiny hearts… it’s time to get Australian.’ You imply that like you, Australians
are not nice people and with that false notion, we should take care of the migrants
like them.

Such statements advocating violence, vile aggression and insult towards individuals
seeking refuge or asylum are unacceptable and violate basic human rights
principles. The migrant problem, regardless of the circumstances, is a complex issue
that requires compassionate and equitable solutions. Using force as a means of
deterrence is not a solution and goes against the principles of humanity and basic
human dignity.

All people, regardless of their nationality and status are entitled to the right to
protection and humane treatment. It is important to handle the migrant situation not
with plain derogatory words, but through policies and specialised programs that
prioritise basic human rights.

I suggest that you go back to school and study social sciences very nicely as you
lack compassion and standard emotions towards humans in dire situations. The job
of a columnist may be to give commentary and personal views, but what you’re
doing is pushing illicit boundaries with your fanatical, twisted mentality.

If you still haven’t found your desired answer in all the mess you wrote and the
response I give, let me tell you in short: To tackle this so-called migrant problem that
you perceive as a big threat, A comprehensive approach that addresses the root
causes of migration and displacement is necessary to effectively address the issue
and ensure that the rights of migrants and refugees are protected and respected.

As said by Abraham Lincoln himself, a house divided against itself cannot stand. We
must all come together to end human suffering whether you like migrants or not.

Yours sincerely,

Ayaan Ahmed Khan, Garden International School pupil.
